Damn stupid is take. I sorry but swimming in open ocean water in general
means that sharks are possible. I am used to swimming in pool and if I
cannot see around me I am not really into swimming. I have on lakes a
few times but even then it was not like I liked it. Gave it all up
except swimming in a pool and that is fine but even then I am not fish.

One of the resons I moved from Wisconsin to Florida 27 years ago was
to sail, swim, and scuba dive in the ocean.

I don't sail nor scuba any more, but my wife and I regularly go to the
seashore to walk the beach and swim.

My guess is just swimming close to beach shore is pretty safe depends on
how far you go out and deep. I am not a expert on sharks but my guess
they can be anywhere. How far out do you go.

Shark danger is greatly exaggerated. The movie did a lot of harm.

Sharks can be anywhere in salt water and some can actually swim up
    fresh water rivers.

The waters we kayak and swim in have seen encounters with bull sharks,
that are relatively dangerous. We encountered a big one several years
ago while kayaking. It passed beneath my wife's kayak and she hit it
with her paddle. It scurried away and disappeared. Another time we
waded out into shallow water to watch a small three foot bull shark
attacking and eventually eating an eagle ray.

In past years, I scuba dove without concern where there were Caribbean
Reef Sharks in the vicinity. They're not considered dangerous, but
there were other sightings of sharks that quickly got me back on the
    boat.

Indeed I believe bees kill more folks or some similar statistics! Not that there isnrCOt a risk but as ever humans are bad a risk evaluation and all
    that.
