Apparently, the Ayatollah is dead. Israeli operatives have already found
the body and confirmed it is him. At least some of his family is also
dead but I'm not sure if his designated heir (one of his sons) is dead.
But the IRGC structure has apparently collapsed today and everyone is
Iran is celebrating with delirious joy. The substantial Iranian diaspora
is also celebrating in cities like London.

I'm not clear yet if there is still resistance to the American-Israeli
attack or if the Iranians are still firing missiles and drones.

It seems the Islamic regime is still sending missiles and drones so
there must still be some loyal followers of the Ayatollah.

The US State Department has issued a world-wide alert to Americans to be careful. There are concerns about Iranians overseas, some of whom are
loyal to the regime, like sleeper cells.

It's too soon to tell if the war is over (or even close to over); it all depends on how long the remnants of the regime keep fighting.

What's the over/under on leftists declaring this to be "a quagmire"?

Doesn't something have to last a little longer to qualify? I don't
recall them calling the 12 Day War a quagmire. super70s says we're all
just dupes of Israel; that's probably the official leftist line.

That wouldn't actually shock me. Justin Trudeau got pretty close to that
when Fidel Castro died. It took major media pressure before he
acknowledged that Castro was not viewed particularly favourably in some quarters. Trudeau himself rushed to Castro's bedside when he heard he
was close to the end but didn't quite make it.

Of course it should be noted that Fidel Castro was a family friend of
the Trudeaus. Justin's (official) dad, Pierre Trudeau had been the first
major Western leader to visit Cuba and retained Castro's gratitude.
Castro actually came to Pierre Trudeau's funeral in Montreal and was
seated just a few rows from former President Carter.

a couple days and that it would spill over into a world war.

It always amazed me how the notion that Castro was his dad became so
prevalent despite the (near) impossibility of it. People looked at the "evidence" presented without looking at the date of the photograph and comparing it to Justin's actual birthday. He was actually 5 years old
when the photo was taken of Castro admiring the baby. (The baby was
Justin's youngest brother, Michel, who died in a back country skiing
accident some years ago.) Mind you, the photos of young Castro and
Justin *were* strikingly similar so I can see people being confused by that.

Interesting read from someone who met Khamenei

Letter by Dr. Rajab S. Safarov to Mr. Kazem Jalali (Ambassador of Iran to Russia) regarding Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Imam Ali Khamenei who was killed during Operation Epic Fury in Iran.
