Apparently, the leader of the Jalisco drug cartel has been killed by the Mexican government with some intel from the US. Now the cartel is
retaliating very violently. Apparently they are attacking military
bases, perhaps to seize bigger weapons.

People in tourist areas like Puerto Vallarta are being urged to shelter
    in place.

Can't argue with that decision. Saw some video of people who had
stopped cars and then poured fuel in the opened doors of the car
(empty) and set it on fire. Not exactly a safe place at the moment.

It's about time Mexico gives us the greenlight to go down there and flatten those bastards.

I don't really know that much about Mexico but it sounds really messed
up. There was a Mexican in my tech meetup group for a while last year
and we talked about it a couple of times. He said the cartels were
really bad and there was a lot of corruption.

I don't know if there's any real hope of cleaning up that country. Do
you think America would really like to get involved in that? It might
make Vietnam and Afghanistan seem like picnics. I could picture a war
that lasted many years and put a lot of Americans in body bags (and even
    more Mexicans)....
