rCLBefore I read the Climategate emails, I thought they were all frauds,
but after reading Climategate I came to realise many, possibly all of
them actually believe the nonsense they are peddling. Climategate is
full of activist scientists acting to suppress contrary evidence, not as
part of a conspiracy to deceive, but because they believe their mission
to save the world is so important, nothing can be allowed into the
public domain which might create doubt.rCY

rCLNow the world has moved on, and climate action is no longer a priority, climate scientists are still trying to fight a battle which has been
lost, a cause which other people increasingly find irrelevant and
implausible. If it wasnrCOt for all the damage their nonsense climate
warnings did to the world economy, all the lives blighted or cut short
by soaring energy prices, I would feel a little sorry for them.rCY

The world has not moved on. Check your weather reports. The ocean is being heated which will reduce the world's food supply. The world news is presently preoccupied by the Epstein-Trump war on Iran and Venezuala.
But that will pass as climate driven refugees from the Tropical areas are moving North. The North has its own problems with extraordinary amount
of precipitation from the over-heated oceans. The Climate crisis is cutting lives short and uncontrolled use of coal and oil products will kill more. People in low lying nations and on islands are losing their livelihoods as floods occupy more and more of their farm lands and ocean heating
destroys the fish populations on which they depend.

Please provide citation for your assertion.

DOGE was a political exercise, a waste of money and time
just to make Steve Bannon happy. Here's an example of their
    stellar intelligence:

"On March 4, the GSA published a list of 443 properties
to be sold, including headquarters, courthouses, and 47 SSA
offices.[351][352] That list was edited the same day to remove
about 120 properties and then taken off the GSA website the
next day.[353] The public list included a previously undisclosed
"highly sensitive federal complex in Springfield, Virginia" where
    the CIA conducts clandestine operations.[354]

Incompetent political hacks, to be sure. With no scientific expertise
to make any judgments on any type of modeling, must less climate
    modeling.

Indeed. When I worked with a general circulation model in the early
80s, our total expenses consisted of six salaries, computer time, and
office space. I'm quite sure that at the time this was less than a
million a year. And there were only a handful of GCM groups at the
    time, not that many now.

The cost of one fighter aircraft would have kept us going for years.

While the research done on GCMs is not always applicable to forecast
models, which work at higher resolution in space and time and have no
need to be stable beyond three weeks, some of it is. In my group new
physics relating to down-slope windstorms was introduced. These are
very damaging storms and a slight increase in the reliability of their prediction will save lives and huge amounts of money over the long term.

In fact, if there were no worries about imminent climate change we would
still be creating and working with these models, the better to
understand our world. As we do with other subjects.

For example, before moving to climate I was part of a small body of
workers who were trying to understand a tiny change in the energy states
of alkali metals under certain circumstances. We could measure this
change with some accuracy, so from a "practical" point of view we didn't
need a theoretical prediction of it. The point of the prediction was to
see if we understood what was going on in he electron clouds of these
metals. In the larger metals, we didn't.

And if that was a political issue I am sure Lynn's friends would
denounce the money spent on that, while exaggerating it a thousandfold.

Faraday's boss wanted him to spend his time working on the optical
properties of glasses, rather than fooling around with useless subjects
like electricity and magnetism. Imagine the wonderful glass-based
society we could have if he had only convinced Faraday to drop the
    frivolity!

[I can't resist an irrelevant addendum. Grigori Levenfish was a chess grandmaster and scientist living in he USSR. In middle age he did not
want to continue to play chess competitively, but to continue his
scientific work. However, the authorities ordered him to play, as he
was the USSR's second (at least) strongest player. (Though they perhaps regretted their action when he drew a match he was supposed to lose
against their much younger "best" player.) His research? The
    properties of glasses.]
