Remember the furore when video emerged last year of the rape of a
Palestinian prisoner by Israeli soldiers at Sde Teiman prison? Only,
instead of outrage at the mistreatment of captives by rCLthe most moral
army in the worldrCY, much of the anger was from right-wingers upset
that information had been leaked that made Israel look bad.

Out of nine soldiers arrested in connection with the incident, only
five have been put on trial, and only for rCLseverely abusingrCY the
    prisoner, not rape.

Now, the leaker of the video has identified herself as the Efc<Efc# armyrCOs top lawyer, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, and she has also quit her job. She
says that pressure from right-wing politicians was hampering the rape investigation, which was what drove her to make the video public.
Clearly she saw no hope of ever obtaining justice for the victim.
Which was supposed to be her job. Which she couldnrCOt do any more.

    From <https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/11/1/why-has-the-israeli-armys-top-lawyer-resigned-after-leaking-rape-evidence>:

IsraelrCOs hard-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir
appeared to address Tomer-Yerushalmi directly in July 2024,
writing in Hebrew, rCLThe Military Advocate General, take your hands
off the reservists!rCY he said, referring to the soldiers accused of
    rape.

Ben-GvirrCOs fellow traveller on the far-right, Finance Minister
Bezalel Smotrich, was equally active on social media at the time,
writing that the alleged rapists should be treated like rCLheroes,
    not villainsrCY.

Returning to social media during the furore following the rape,
Smotrich chose to ignore the credible accusations of rape and
instead called for rCLan immediate criminal investigation to locate
the leakers of the trending video that was intended to harm the
reservists and that caused tremendous damage to Israel in the
world, and to exhaust the full severity of the law against themrCY.

And of course these right-wingers have welcomed Tomer-YerushalmirCOs
ouster with glee. Will her successor be able to make any more progress
with the case? Or will they quietly abandon it?

others in her pursuit of justice that led to her leaking the video.

Itamar Ben-Gvir is still in denial that IsraelrCOs soldiers could do
anything wrong: herCOs now talking about rCLthe case that led to a blood
libel against IDF soldiersrCY. As if the evidence of wrongdoing was
    itself libellous ...
