Note what Ferris said: "... those non-Maori supporters were
ocampaigning to take a Maori seat from Maorio, so clearly stating that
Henare is not a Maori. This is what Tamihere is supporting. By
inference all Maori should stay the hell away from contesting general electorates or supporting any campaigning outside Maori electorates.
Oh and stay away from being list candidates for any party other than
the Maori Party.
Also from Tamihere: "I don't rage the Opium War as the British did
with the Chinese. I don't place all people from Africa into slavery
like white Europe did, right? So I expect some co-mutuality of
respect,". Now quite apart from the fact that none of what Tamihere
is saying was related to election campaigns, none of these involved
any NZ-related entity.
Interestingly, it seems that candidates in the Maori electorates are
NOT required to be Maori, but votes in these seats can only be cast by
those on the Maori Electoral roll.
Perhaps ACT or National might choose to stir the pot and put up
non-Maori candidates in the Maori electorates? Perhaps not.
