All I can say is, I hope the kids will be alright, and I think we'll
never know the exact sequence of events of this tragic day -- I don't
trust the police to give an accurate accounting, it'll be CYA as
    everything seems to be nowadays.

The kids will have been brainwashed by their looney father over the
last four years into distrusting everyone. Now their father has been
"killed" by police, so they'll distrust authorities even more. It's
going to be a long long road, and probably lots of future entangements
with the law, until these kids are ever "normal" again, if they ever
will be. It can only be hoped that the rest of their family is sane
enough to help them get there. :-(

The other problem is that the news media, as usual, just keeps on and on
and on about it, over-analysing every tiny thing. It's still on the
front page of the NZ Herald. It's over, leave it alone! :-\

This is more a comment on the public's mindset rather than the case itself. Helping the "cause" is the matter of there are many interesting aspects
    which fuel folks curousity.

Is it? Or is it simply the media pushing it to *supposedly* get bigger reader/viewer figures?

I don't know anybody who is has even the tiniest interest in this in
the first place (other than the kids being safe again), let alone half
a week later. Just leave the rest of it to the appropriate government departments to deal with the messy aftermath.

    Yes that's correct.
There is a police officer and family that need to heal, there are 3 kids and their family that need to heal.
We need to let it happen without external interference. We have no choice but to assume that the authorities are doing the best they can to expedite the healing.
Let the police also learn whatever needs to be learnt.
