Originally, MacCaf|- was aimed primarily at former MacSOUP users, hence
its old-fashioned interface. However, it now offers many features not
found in MacSOUP, some of which I've never seen in any other newsreader.

I had the opportunity to test the very first version of Usenapp, which
looked very promising. In my opinion, the main drawback of this
newsreader is that it's not free.

As far as I know, Homebrew is intended for programs that cannot be
installed directly under macOS, which is not the case with MacCaf|-. So
what would be the point of this type of installation?

Granted, that is one of the very few valid usage cases; it will
leave your nice shiny Mac in need of a thorough wash though.

Also, the application does not seem to sort by date automatically, and I find myself having to click on the "Date"-column a few times, and scroll, to have
it sorted the right way. :)

It probably does not support Unicode (or anything except ASCII) and is
having issues with letter '||' in 'S||derberg'.

I would agree. It probably would make more sense to make MacCaf|-
available via App Store. Currently, if you search for "Usenet" in App
Store on OS X, you'll only get Hogwasher and NGroup (which is the
weirders newsreader I ever saw).
