assigning the maximum score of 9999 to the "from" overview header
for strings that match your own usenet identity "ego <
me@my.self>"
makes it easy to filter in the header list score > equals > +9999,
which if you've already set the scoring syntax before downloading
headers will show only articles scored "+9999" in the header list:
[*]
=+9999 From "ego <
me@my.self>"
!watch,keep,setcolor(red;yellow) From "ego <
me@my.self>"
# mnemonic "self", me, ego, maximum score
this same simple method of course applies to anyone else's usenet
identity, and can be extended to include variations in the header
string; e.g. add +9998, +9997, etc. to score alternate identities,
pseudonyms, changes in newsserver domain names, and for remailers
that may not allow full from headers; e.g., in my particular case:
=+9999 From "D <J@M>"
!watch,keep,setcolor(red;yellow) From "D <J@M>"
=+9998 From "D <nore"
!watch,keep,setcolor(red;yellow) From "D <nore"
alternatively for scoring in groups with few other remailer users:
=+9999 Message-ID "dizum"
!watch,keep,setcolor(red;yellow) Message-ID "dizum"
=+9998 Message-ID "mixmin"
!watch,keep,setcolor(red;yellow) Message-ID "mixmin"
as a long-time subscriber to usenet newsgroups (since 1997, first
post in january 1998 using "replay" remailer, and using remailers
ever since), this newsgroup caught many readers attention leading
up to the new millennium, the infamous alt.prophecies.nostradamus:
using 40tude dialog 2.0.15.41:
news:alt.prophecies.nostradamus
long-retention newsserver articles oldest newest news.blueworldhosting.com 382162 06/30/2003 09/05/2024 paganini.bofh.team 36393 06/20/2019 09/05/2024 freenews.netfront.net 31391 05/09/2020 09/05/2024
discussions in this once-flourishing "a.p.n." newsgroup gradually
drifted away from its central purpose after the year two thousand
came and went, but held on to some of the die-hard nosty devotees
until the scourge of politics, religion and troll farm occupation
eventually dominated the forum (a plight common to legacy groups)
chasing almost everyone away, per chance to seek greener pastures?
so although a.p.n. has remained active, the signal to noise ratio
is comparable to any other busy newsgroup that has been ruined by
the trolls that be; even so, such formerly popular newsgroups are
still searchable, but only to the extent that any news server has
complete article retention for that newsgroup, in that time frame
