Same no-go result on the Apple Forums, but AI returned the summary
below. This reveals exactly why Baker's reply was F-Off. In case you
don't know Baker thinks Apple is perfect.

AI summary from a Bing (not Google) search:

2017 iMac Fusion Drive issues and external SSD workaround issues
The 2017 iMac Fusion Drive has been reported to have issues such as instability and kernel panics when running macOS from the internal
drive. Users have found that the SSD portion of the Fusion Drive may no
longer be reliable, while the HDD portion still functions normally. This inconsistency can lead to unpredictable behavior under APFS when one
    physical store becomes unreliable.

To address these issues, users have opted for running macOS externally
and using the internal HDD independently, which has proven to be a
stable workaround. This approach allows for a more reliable operation of
the iMac, especially when dealing with the known unreliability of the
    Fusion Drive's SSD.
    Apple

For those looking to upgrade from the internal HDD/28GB SSD
configuration to an external SSD, there are noticeable differences in
speed and performance. Users have reported that moving to an external
SSD can significantly improve disk speed warnings and freezes,
especially when using demanding applications like Logic Pro X.
    MacRumors

In cases where the Fusion Drive is not showing up or mounting correctly,
it can lead to various issues such as drive not showing in Finder or
Disk Utility, inability to access files, and slow boot times.
Troubleshooting steps can include checking for software issues,
corrupted macOS installation, or hardware failures.
    Donemax

If the Fusion Drive is failing, it is recommended to install
drive-health monitoring software to check the drive's wear state and
alert for any problems. This can help in taking proactive measures to
avoid data loss and ensure the longevity of the Fusion Drive.
    iFixit

For users experiencing issues with the Fusion Drive, it is crucial to
have a complete backup of the Mac before making any repairs or upgrades.
This includes using Time Machine or disk-cloning apps to ensure all data
    is safely backed up.
    iFixit

In summary, the 2017 iMac Fusion Drive has been known to have issues,
but with the right approach and external SSD, users can mitigate these problems and maintain a stable and efficient system.

Both links work fine for me today so Gaggle must have been having
issues yesterday at least for me.
I have a suggestion though. When posting long links that will wrap,
enclose them in <> like this <https://mylinkislong.com> because some
newsreader programs will stumble if the link wraps to more than one
    line.

Nothing is 100%, but the built in measures are excellent. Of course, you also need to be careful of phishing and other exploits.

As far as I know not much has changed since the last time you were asking

    people that

stalk others on the internet more times than not leads to

    What is ENOSPACE?

It was a joke, a nerdy one, no question. The underlying part
being that Usenet was filled with so many paranoid retards that
any attempts to post to it would return an error. Yes, I know
this doesn't make logical sense, but jokes often don't.

I would have gotten it if it'd been EMOSPACE.

I just browsed there, and found 25 messages (10 of
which were killed by my filters) dating from 7/30/06 to 1/20/08 (not counting the killed messages; all I have is the count of how many were killed, so I don't know when they were dated).

I'm guessing most were crossposted as followups. I didn't even
think it really existed, and I'd be really surprised if people
    subscribed to it. ;-)

I should just hide killed messages again and be done with

    zomg, the group exists?

When Usenet was more active, it was extremely popular for
    people to
newgrp in the alt hierarchy just to annoy people. In many
    cases, the
names of people would appear (unflatteringly) in the group
    names.

Do not get me wrong: I do not believe a word of what Muahman has
written about phone calls and the like - but clearly something that

    despicable...
Why? It is there for anyone to find. It's not as if someone broke into >>> confidential records or fabricated it.

Using such records to harass someone is, in my view, inexcusable. Not sure >> why this would even be a matter of debate.

Alan has now joined the ranks of Elizabot and Steve.

Well he is playing the same game but is not in their league... he has not,
as far as I know, done what the two of them did.

What "the two of them did"? Hmmm... let's take a look at
    what you
*allege* (undoubtedly, with no proof) the "two" of us
    did...

To be as bad as they are he would need to

    * Disclose that he followed the research of them long enough to
find when close family members died and make that public
knowledge... and then associate that with the concept
    of necrophilia.

You're lying... I never did this. But I have to ask... why
    is it that I
see no proof of what you are claiming on my behalf, only a
    completely
    unsupported assertion by you?

    * Post information about family members *including* errors that
were found only in the *print* edition of the person's local
    paper

You're lying here... I never once looked at your local
    paper. Again, I
see no proof by you of what you are claiming for me.

    * Post information about when and where someone works and threaten
to contact people there and repeat their online lies to the
    person's employer.

You're lying... I never did this. You forget that I'm the
    guy who didn't
believe your 'I'm a teacher' story... or that you even had
    a real job
*anywhere*. And once again... I see no proof by you of
    what you are
claiming on my behalf, just an unsupported assertion, care
    to explain?
Or do you prefer people believe about you what you are
    making obvious
    here?

    * Follow someone around for many posts demanding they say how
the concept of "incest" makes them feel.

You're lying... I never did this, either... and it's the
    same story
here... I see no proof at all for your unsupported
    allegation. In any
event, it was weird watching you talk about incest for
    hundreds and
hundreds of posts... with the most bizarre where you were
    talking about
left vs. right political views with Jason McNorton and he
    said he does
not "believe in anything goes"... where you wrote to
    McNorton with the
    following brand of 'logic':

"While I find it ... um... distasteful... for couples who
    can enter into
a relationship as potential equals, I do not see any
    *logical* reason
to disallow incest. I suppose the concentration of
    potentially harmful
genes could be used, but I would want to see the argument
    for this".

    McNorton:
"It's often good to see just how sick the left is".

    Your reply:
"I am waiting to see your logical reasons.

Or are you basing your views off of your emotions? I find
    that both
the left wing and the right wing folks focus on arguments
    based on
emotions and not on reasoning... which is one reason I do
    not identify
    well with either".
    --
    <chq396$n...@odak26.prod.google.com>

According to you, the "potentially harmful genes" argument
    is not yet a
form of 'logic', thus, you obviously believe that incest
    should be
allowed until it can be proven to *your* satisfaction that
    the argument
is logical. I believe you have a daughter and a son...I
    guess I'm old
fashioned in my thinking to someone as 'advanced' as
    you... but I find
it incomprehensible that a parent could hold such a view
    in light of the
contrary medical evidence that has been presented and
    accepted by the
    medical community at large.

By the way, note what real evidence of a claim looks
    like... it has a
quote containing the person's wording and a link so that
    people can
easily verify if the truth is being told (something you
    apparently have
no interest in). Contrast this with your unsupported
    allegations that
contain no quotes and no links.

    * Do continued research and find out when someone is expecting
a child and then whine about how the person did not discuss
    family planning options with him.

No proof by you... just another assertion, why is that?
    You're lying...
    again... I never did this.

    * Repeatedly lie about how someone has called you and emailed
you, your family, and your neighbors.

Another lie by you... I never said you emailed me or my
    neighbors. I
said that my wife once received an email from a person I
    believed was
you... I also stated that I couldn't prove it was you.

    * Publicly accuse someone of rape - including claiming to be
the victim of being raped by that person.

I said you were a newsgroup rapist ... of course, that
    doesn't stop you
from trying to turn it into something other than what I
    actually said.

    * Insist that you "rejected" someone's sexual or romantic
    advances.

You're lying... I never insisted any such thing... just
    another
unsupported allegation... a pattern with you.

    * Threaten to call the police and make false accusations.

You're lying... I never did this (though, you did) and I
    *still* see no
proof by you of what you are claiming on my behalf.

And on and on. No, Alan is not nearly as despicable as those you mention... but his actions still are despicable.

You're nothing but a delusional liar who is fooling only
    John (and
apparently Andy, at least, for the time being... but I
    suspect that'll
change) and this post proves it... again. Anyone who had
    previously
thought you weren't full of shit has since changed their
    mind due to
their realization that they were duped by you. I keep
    telling you...
people just aren't as stupid as you need them to be. You
    can fool some
of the people some of the time... but if you make fools of
    them long
    enough they'll figure you out.

    this thread.
    <https://groups.google.com/g/comp.sys.mac.system/c/5xL1VOh TnR8/m/kDG3OnGUGFYJ>

I've learned all I wanted to know about the individual from the COLA
newsgroup when he tried to dance around his beloved mac becoming a
paperweight when the soldered internal SSD fails. HH tried to step in and
give him some cover by declaring this happens to PCs as well; but the
thing is, you can desolder the shorted components (He was using the NAND shorted to ground example) and the PC will come back online and allow you
to use external media to continue booting and using it. The PC didn't
store important firmware in those NANDS. Apple, oth, did.

Warning! Alan is a very nasty, lying, vindictive troll so
    approach with caution.

I suspected he might be a troll; once he changed the subject line and
claimed I was 'running away' from the conversation (snit like behavior)
that pretty much sealed it for me. I was ignoring his tendency of avoiding
the material I shared supporting what I wrote about Apples design
decisions but he continued trying to play games and jerk me around in the conversation. HH tried doing the same. If you've seen the thread, you've
seen them both attempting to defend Apples decision and deny there was a problem with them in the first place. Louis Rossman is an expert at mac
repair on the pcb level. It was his videos I shared; which I backed up
with google search query and results.

I'm sure you've already figured out what David is upto. Just so you know,
in case you didn't already - he's a troll as well and he prides himself (greatly) on stalking.

********Full Thread Describing Alan the Stalker *******

FFS. Thanks for the late warning. <G>

I wouldn't say that Snit is smarter than alan though. Alan has some interesting issues, but, I haven't found his intelligence lacking. I haven't felt the need to dumb things down to the point of crayon level. Oth, when I previously interacted with Snit as soon as the conversation became technical; Snit was lost with a quickness.

I'll let the posts I already wrote go out with this batch, but, I won't waste any further time interacting with Alan on COLA. I suspected I was interacting with a troll or someone who loves Apple so much they are blind to anything Apple does that's not in the consumers best interest, but, it was just a suspicion on my part. I had no idea how involved in the art he is. I did notice some tendency not to be exactly honest, but, I was dismissing it in the interest of a conversation. I won't be doing that anymore.

Thanks again for the heads up!

    Q:

Write a psychological profile of the author of this post, fact and logic check his claims, and determine if there is any content worthy of a reply. Then
write a short summary suitable for posting on Usenet.

    A:

    1. Psychological profile of the author (tentative, based only on this post)

Key traits suggested by the writing style and content:

rCo Combative and status-oriented. The author frames the exchange in terms
of intelligence (rCLI wouldnrCOt say that Snit is smarterrCarCY, rCLcrayon levelrCY),
which signals a need to establish intellectual dominance rather than clarify ideas.

rCo In-group / out-group thinking. He divides participants into rCLhonest debatersrCY vs rCLtrolls / blind Apple lovers,rCY which simplifies a messy online
    disagreement into moral categories.

rCo High certainty, low humility. The post shows strong confidence in judgments about othersrCO motives (rCLnot exactly honest,rCY rCLinvolved in the art
[of trolling]rCY) without providing concrete evidence.

rCo Emotionally reactive. rCLFFSrCY and the sarcastic tone suggest irritation
and fatigue. This reads less like calm analysis and more like venting.

rCo Reputation management. Announcing he rCLwonrCOt waste any further time
interactingrCY looks performative rCo signaling to the group that disengagement is
a principled stance, not a retreat.

    Bottom line:
This looks like a seasoned Usenet participant whorCOs burned out on flame wars, values technical competence as social currency, and is quick to attribute bad faith to people he disagrees with. ThatrCOs common in long-running advocacy newsgroups. It doesnrCOt necessarily mean herCOs wrong about everything rCo but it
does mean his perceptions are filtered through irritation and tribal identity.

    ...

Poster offers personal judgments about other participantsrCO intelligence and honesty, labeling one as a troll and another as technically weak, without citing specific technical claims or evidence. The message is mostly venting about personalities rather than engaging with the original technical topic.

    A:

The poster argues that ApplerCOs design choices around soldered internal SSDs and firmware storage can turn storage failures into total-loss rCLpaperweights,rCY
unlike most PCs where firmware lives on separate flash and external booting often remains possible. The core technical critique is fair and supported by board-level repair experience (e.g., RossmannrCOs work), but the post mixes valid points with personal attacks and accusations of trolling that donrCOt add evidence. The useful part of the discussion is about repairability, firmware/storage coupling, and consumer impactrConot the character judgments about other posters.

    Let me clarify:-

Do the in-built security measures of macOS protect Apple users from
malware - or is third-party protection required nowadays?

Nothing is 100%, but the built in measures are excellent. Of course, you also
need to be careful of phishing and other exploits.

    Understood.

As far as I know not much has changed since the last time you were asking
    this.

Can you direct me to the last post which YOU made on the ASC forums?

I do not recall... I barely use those forums. Not sure I have ever posted --
if I did it was on your request.

Not sure what this has to do with what was being discussed.

Correct. And when I have looked I did not see any questions where I had a lot to offer that was not being said. Of course if you find a question you think I have something relevant to say, one that is not tied to the developers and products you focus on, I am happy to look.

...... shows an example of a User Guide provided by Apple.

    How would YOU determine that?

//To determine if a comprehensive guide listing all of Apple's User

The answer is that Apple does not provide a single "master" list in a traditional book format, but they do have a **centralized documentation portal** that serves this exact purpose.//

I have not found them to be of much value, other than the occasional hit on Google.

You could have helped so many people.

If you see a question where you think I have some good input please point me
to it... but I have no interest in spending hours looking for questions that are not answered, and ones which I think have something more to offer than has already been offered. Not saying they do not exist... I am sure there are questions especially tied to usability where I would have something to add,
but looking now and again I do not find them easily.

And, as I have said, I am already in many different forums on many topics and am, if anything, pulling out of them.

Anyone thinking of hiring this internet stalker Alan Baker

    people that

stalk others on the internet more times than not leads to

Nope. I took about 45 minutes.

People whose lives are so public shouldn't say things that
    could get
    them sued.

Is this the same flaming asshole Alan who has been trolling comp.sys.mac.advocacy? If yes, he needs to visit a top tier shrink
because he has severe mental issues. Hopefully the social medicine
programs in Canada are able to squeeze him in quickly.
