Well, modern phones have more power than computers of not too long
ago, but you do not have the full sized keyboard and screen and
the like.

Have some examples tasks you are thinking of?
Android has always allowed file manager apps, for example.
iOS has a file manager called "Files". It shows all user documents.
It has a
proper filesystem, which stores proper files, so it makes sense to use
proper tools for managing those files.
Can you give an example where this helps the general user? Not saying there
are none -- maybe it helps with troubleshooting? I am grossly outdated on Android and even when I used it I did so on low end devices. Oh, and have used it in emulation but that hardly counts.
