Looking at the breakdown by OS version, it says Linux overall gained
0.38% in December, while Windows actually dropped by 0.56%. (Windows
11 failing to gain as much as Windows 10 lost.)

I would imagine that these are some of the users with perfectly capable machines who are simply being locked out of Windows 11 because they
don't have a TPM chip. Their choice amounted to installing Windows 11
without said chip using a special installer made by Rufus (and risking
an eventual lockout by Microsoft through an update) or simply installing Linux. There are lots of videos calling for people to do the Linux thing
on YouTube, so there is a chance that even the most cautious Windows
user decided to at least give it a try. It can also be the people who
either opted for a Steam Deck or bought a competing machine and switched
    the OS to SteamOS.

Meanwhile, macOS gets left in the dust ... ?

MacOS has a pathetic library of games. When I still had a MacBook M1 and loaded up Steam, a very tiny amount of my almost 200 games were
available to play. It was mostly 2D titles and a few older 3D games. No
one who intends to play games should even consider a Mac.

IrCOve told you before, you really should check your facts before

I don't know all the facts, but while I won't say that 2026 is the year
of the Linux desktop, it might be the year that longtime Windows users
get fed up of Microsoft's decisions. This won't necessarily be a win for
Linux as much as for Apple. Nevertheless, a lot of Linux distributions
today are quite mature and present a very polished desktop to those
Windows users who give it a try. It's quite possible that that great
first impression will turn a lot of longtime Windows users into
full-time converts, especially when they realize how much more
    responsive Linux is.

Valve did indeed amend the stats that were originally posted <https://www.theverge.com/news/857573/linux-usage-on-steam-peaks-again-for-the-third-month-in-a-row>.
Current figures show Linux usage growing for the third month in a row.
YourCOd assume that SteamOS would be accounting for the majority of
    that, but itrCOs not.

Linux is well ahead of MacOS. Is that saying a lot?

It looks like 10% of the Windows installed base is into gaming <https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/01/valve-amended-the-steam-survey-for-december-2025-linux-actually-hit-another-all-time-high/>.

You could assume that a similar proportion applies to desktop Linux
and Mac users. You could assume something else if you like, and that
will lead to its own interesting conclusions. But a 10% proportion
points to a desktop Linux installed base of around 45 million, while
    macOS is about 20 million.

People joke about rCLthe year of desktop LinuxrCY. Maybe they should start joking about rCLthe year of MacintoshrCY instead? Because somehow I donrCOt think Apple is making a great deal of money from selling Macs any more

"Well ahead" in number of games available on Steam? Maybe.

"Well ahead" in other categories? Like what?

Explain how you got that figure from that page please.

Only because an assumption you make that is based on nothing.

    You "don't think"?

    Your assumption above shows that.
