• OT: Microsoft Office renamed Microsoft 365 Co-Pilot app

    From CrudeSausage@crude@sausa.ge to comp.os.linux.advocacy on Tue Jan 6 11:14:10 2026

    1) Venture to http://www.office.com and see the new name.
    2) Get confused as to why they would insist on such a ridiculous name
    3) Realize that there is no escaping this garbage
    4) Move to Linux

They renamed Office to Office 365 nearly 6 years ago (if you can believe
that much time has passed), then more recently to just 365. I think
    it's a silly name, too.

    3) Realize that there is no escaping this garbage
    4) Move to Linux

    5) cringe at Linux
    6) get furious at Linux
    7) insult Linux on cola
    8) reinstall Windows over Linux and make a promise to yourself that you
won't waste your time like that again

If your name is Slimer/Crude Sausage, return to Step 4 after a few weeks
    and start again, ad nauseum.

It's pretty discouraged. I used to worship the company in the 90s. I
thought that everything they did was neat even though every technical
user I knew hated them. I don't hate the company in any way, but it's
becoming increasingly clear that they don't care about us as users.

You're not wrong, but the AI stuff is strongly keeping me away for now. Besides, I got my favourite games (Civilization 7, Fallout 4 / Fallout
London) to play perfectly in Linux, so there is no reason to migrate
back unless I start to miss the fTPM stuttering I constantly mention. I
can live without my movie library. If anything, it has become a reminder
of how much I hate DRM.

Perfectly logical -- it takes 365 days to figure out how to make a simple edit.

Actually, Microsoft 365 includes Linux as an officially-supported
    platform.
