• Firefox for Android - changed menu

    From s|b@me@privacy.invalid to alt.comp.software.firefox,comp.mobile.android on Sat Feb 28 13:27:04 2026
    From Newsgroup: comp.mobile.android

    Crosspost between alt.comp.software.firefox and comp.mobile.android.

What the hell did they do to the menu in Firefox for Android 148? They
went from a small, accessible menu to a gigantic monster.

I think the change was in v147, I find it ok on a tablet, haven't really
    taken much notice on phone

Apparently this started in 141, but yesterday was the first time I
noticed the change (and I use Fx daily). I don't like it at all; my
thumb isn't long enough to operate it.

Me neither. As far as I can tell, it wasn't a major paradigm shift.

Yeah, the change happened a couple of weeks ago and it fell under the
typical Firefox "it wasn't broke so they fixed it" behaviour. Not the
first time that they have disrupted features that I use in the Android
FF, and it is the main reason there have been several forks in the PC
    version.

I use the Beta version and this menu change happened some some
months ago. It was slightly irritating at first but I soon got
used to it. But this is a tablet too - I haven't seen it on a
    phone.

I changed to Beta to get a proper tab-bar on top, like on desktop.
Has that arrived on Release yet? Fenix was always designed
    primarily for phones.

148 on a Pixel 10. After the changes I got the old menu back:

I hope it's a keeper, because I really don't like the new menu.

I started using an Android phone only this year, so it may be that for
me the change wasn't that drastic.

I do know that yesterday or the day before, there was a change on my
Samsung phone that makes it impossible to go back to an earlier version
    of an "app". *That* sucks.

    It it's an add-on (i.e. not pre-installed) non-paid app, you can
probably 'sideload' an older version from one of the many third-party app-stores. I mainly use(d) apkpure.com.

If this concerns one specific app, then please give the 'id=...'
identifier (or full URL) of the apps entry on the Google Play website.
