• How to fully connect smart watch to android phone

    From micky@NONONOmisc07@fmguy.com to comp.mobile.android on Thu Jan 1 10:42:11 2026

I can't completely connect my smart watch to my android phone.

The message is "please pair the phone call bluetooth" but I've done
that, afaik, since the app says it's connected and it will make changes
to the watch, but the watch wants more.

    Details
I bought a no-name smart watch and everything about it and its app seems
    nice.

It said to pair it with the phone using the Dafit app and not the phone,
and I did that. (Actualy I first paired it using Settings/Bluetoth and
had to erase that after I read the directions, which I have no read
fully.) The little manual says "After the Blutooth connection between
the APP and the watch is completed, the call function is automatically connected."

I had already enabled Hey Google on my phone, and it will call a phone
number when I tell it to -- although I had to change my name from Me to
    Me for sure.

It warns you that the Call function uses more power and urges you to
turn it off when not using it, but it has a way to turn it on, I presume
when you are waiting for a call, because even if it's not on, when you
try to place a call, it seems to provide a screen that easily turns it
on, but I have tested this having turned it on separately, and I just
    did again.

And every time I get "please pair the phone call bluetooth" even though
the app says I'm connected and it will do other app things to the watch

FWIW, the phone is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro

Well, all is well. I looked at more Amazon reviews and one guy had a
similar problem, but he gave no details on how he solved it.

I, otoh, had tried 8 or 10 times to make a call from the phone and got
the message in the subject line every time. It pays to wait a day. Today
I tried twice and on the second time I was looking at the phone's app
instead of the watch, and first it asked Do you want to pair? (which
clearly is not the same thing as being connected, even though they both
involve Bluetooth!!!!!!!) and when I said Yes, something blinked on the
other part of t he screen about Invalid Pass Key. That didn't help me
since I had no idea wha tthe passkey should be or where to enter it.

I couldn't get that question again, even by closing the app and reopeing
it. In fact, tapping the Back arrow at the bottom must not have closed
it at all because when I "reopened" it was on the same page as when I
closed it, no matter what page.

There probably is a way to close an app, while using the phone,
    right????

Instead I restarted the phone, and that worked. It asked if I wanted to
pair, and then nonthing. But then when I tapped Call, it offered me 3
things including my contact list. Had never gotten that far befoe, and
indeed the whole thing works now. .

I haven't tested its range, but if I can leave the phone downstairs and
still use it from the bathtub upstairs, I will tell you what it is.

Other than that question, and one other thing***, it works great. Bright screaen, Option for low power use. Only used 3% in the first 24 hours,
even though I was doing far more fiddling with it than I normally would. ***Like many or all??? of them it says it's IP68, and 8 is supposed to
be either a) 1 hour under 1 meter of water, or b) acc wikip, better than
7, which is 30 minutes under 1 meter of water. Instead the little
manual printed in grey, instead of black so I can easily read it (as are
many things these days) says "only for light rain, splashes, and
hand-wasing scenarios. Don't use for swimming, diving, sauna, or a hot
    shower"

I bought this mainly because of an earlier fall where it took me hours
to get back up, so I can call a neighbor or the police. I planned to
wear it when I took a bath, with my hand underwater up to a foot for
short periods. IIUC, they're saying it will leak if I do that.

Do other phones renege on their IP68 rating once you've bought it and
red the instructions? They rate their own products, right? Few are
sant to UL or any place else to be tested, right?

I'll let you know if it works from upstairs to downstairs.

I have taken my watch for a long swim in the Mediterranean. Fixbit
charge 6. It doesn't do phone calls, though, it just tells me there is a
    call.

I don't plan to use any of its features, and either no phone calls or
maybe one phone call if I'm injured and can't get up. I'll be 79 in two
weeks. I feel young, except my back hurts a lot after 7 minutes.

Well, I see they are charging $100 for yours at Walmart, so it must be
better than what I've got, but I certainly don't plan a long swim in the bathtub. Other webpages I read, like on Reddit, claimed the soap would
damage the seals, but I doubt that. They also said salt water would
damage the seals and not in your case.

My ex-gf especially thinks anything cheap is cheap for a reason, and she
has a good point. I don't know how long it will last but now everything
works. I tried it, called my home phone, while standing in the bathtub
while the cell phone was on the kitchen table downstairs and it worked
fine. I left myself a message and the fidelity was just fine, and the
watch is loud enough for a short conversation.

So here is the model for anyone not willing to risk a lot of money. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FPR23S7X?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
only $22.78, the cheapest one they have I think.

I don't like to damage things, and I still think 23 dollars is real
money, but still it's so cheap, I'm thinking I'll wear it in the bathtub
and if I ruin it, I'll buy a 2nd one and be more careful. Because the
tub is the most dangerous place in the house. I can't stand long
enough to take a shower. I put a lawn chair in the shower and now
there's no room for me. At least if I want to stand up. I bought grab
bars for the bathtub, then lost weight and installing them became less important. Now I can't find them.. Finally going to physical therapy and
doing their exercises at home and getting in better shape, but the
bathtub is still the most dangerous place.

I always remove it when taking a shower, and put it to charge instead.

I think mine can send SMSs, but I haven't tried. Phone calls, nope.

And any luck asking the manufacturer? They got your money and they
    should help you with that.
