Is there a way to hide the reported posts from Google Groups?
Not reliably. Google Groups seems to keep a list of "1000" or so most recent reports you have made, and automagically suppresses those with the hidden-due-to-reported banner. But with the recent floods in three newsgroups I monitor, reported threads in a couple of others have suddenly been revealed. As if they had never been reported.
I dislike installing dedicated email clients or newsreaders, but that is the only way to make sure such dross stays gone. USENET retains such sh!t forever. Paid for by tax dollars, ultimately.
