• RAM prices to the moon

    From Ozix@ozix@xizo.am to aus.computers on Fri Nov 21 15:17:41 2025
    From Newsgroup: aus.computers

I have old PCs still using DDR4. I wanted more RAM on one of them, but
    fuck the ridiculous prices now.
Fuck the AI bubble gobbling up new fast RAM (and forcing less of the old
    stuff to be made).

Nothing astonishes Noddy so much as common sense and plain dealing.

I always use second-hand RAM and have few troubles. Of course you'd
want to run Memtest86 for starters to check what you've got. I even
bought some from a Chinese Ebay seller once at the cheapest price
there and no troubles with it either, although I'm sure there are
some dodgy sellers like with flash memory.

Lots of scammers on eBay these days.

The worst on Ebay seem to be the big players, who they also give
special treatment to with complaints. SparesBox (same parent
company as repco) strung me along for months and then delivered
only half of my order which I returned for a refund because they
wouldn't send the rest. But now I'm waiting on Supercheap Auto for
a (not even model-specific!) item I ordered directly on their site
and they haven't sent it after two weeks, and haven't replied to my
request on their help form after over half a week. Unfortunately I
ordered as "collect from store" so I don't think the PayPal buyer
protection applies, but I might try that anyway.

Much less trouble from small businesses, including small car parts
sellers on Ebay. Clearly the way to really make money in this
country now is to rip people off as much as possible.

Turns out the PayPal claim did go through and I got an automatic
refund through their website. Although I guess I've lost the $10
credit I used on the order. Still dead silence from SCA.

Of course SCA finally responded the next day, after exactly one
week, although only to say they'd contacted my local store about
    it.
