• Sounds like we could be in for a long intermission during the S49 finale (ET)

    This is from Mike Bloom.

Right now, it seems like the #Survivor49 finale will stop down after its
first hour for Trump's address to the nation. The rest of the episode
will then air following the speech.

    https://x.com/AMikeBloomType/status/2001009123492770030

Having a long break during the finale will ruin the experience,
especially if Trump talks for over an hour. Watching the west coast feed
is risky unless you stay completely off of SM. Might have to start
looking for a ET Global feed and hope they don't air Trump's address.

This is weirdly interesting to me. Has the finale ever been interrupted
like this due to a presidential speech or national emergency? I can't
recall. It doesn't really affect me much since I generally don't watch
live anyway. I always record it and I usually delay watching for at
least half an hour or an hour. I just have to make sure it records past
    the usual end time.

I don't think a finale has ever been interrupted. A presidential address
a week before Christmas seems very weird to me. Based on what he says
he's going to talk about, I can see it being a very long address.

I'm sure he scheduled this not realizing it would be right in the middle
of a high rated TV event. Usually major non-emergency speeches are
planned and announced far in advance, and the networks have time to
react and plan around it. In some cases, speeches are scheduled in a
way they won't conflict with a major TV event.

I know this isn't likely, but I wonder if once people tell him this and
he hears complaints about it, if he will move the time? This may be a
case where the growing hoopla about the conflict with Survivor will
become more of a story than whatever the speech is about.

But Mark Burnett was a big supporter when he was elected and during his

Also, I think Trump appointed Burnett to UK Envoy. So that might count

No, this will most likely be more of a political speech than something
really important. And of course it will be covered by all the main
cable news channels, so it's silly to pre-empt a major prime time show
for what is effectively a kind of campaign speech.

But keep in mind that Trump just sued CBS not that long ago over that 60 minutes interview and got them to cough over some bucks, so maybe they
are afraid he will do it again.

It sounds like this was very sudden. Truth Social post today and
now the networks, etc. are scrambling. What he plans on talking
about sounds like a State of the Union speech to me.

I know this isn't likely, but I wonder if once people tell him
this and he hears complaints about it, if he will move the time? >>>>>> This may be a case where the growing hoopla about the conflict

He probably hates Survivor because Jeff is a Dem.

But Mark Burnett was a big supporter when he was elected and during
his first term.-a Remember that he produced The Apprentice.

Also, I think Trump appointed Burnett to UK Envoy.-a So that might
    count for something.

I don't think MB has had anything to do with Survivor for ages other
than collect checks. With so many 24/7 news networks is it really
necessary for the broadcast networks to show this? If it was
something big then of course they should ...

No, this will most likely be more of a political speech than something
really important.-a And of course it will be covered by all the main
cable news channels, so it's silly to pre-empt a major prime time show
for what is effectively a kind of campaign speech.

It's going to be a review of his accomplishments in 2025 and what he
plans on doing the next three years. It makes no sense why this can't
    wait another six weeks.

But keep in mind that Trump just sued CBS not that long ago over that
60 minutes interview and got them to cough over some bucks, so maybe
they are afraid he will do it again.

CBS has a 24/7 news service that will cover this speech. The S49 finale
is going to have horrible ratings because of this.

Or maybe he thinks Survivor will give him a bump and his speech will
    have amazing ratings.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be annoying. I record the show on
YouTubeTV, and I'm not sure if that service will pick up on the fact
that it won't end on time, so I'm also going to have to record the 11 pm
news and Stephen Colbert. And then on playback, I will have to skip
ahead through the president's speech but making sure I don't skip too
    far ahead.

The closest thing I can compare this too is way back in 2000 during the election crisis when a major announcement, I think by the Florida
Secretary of State, interrupted a key episode of the X-Files and I had
to scramble to download the episode because my DVR didn't get it all.
