• Remember the sea snake that took out Jake?

Looks like the sea snake that took out Jake might have been seeking
revenge for the way Ozzy handled his great grandfather! Jeff's crack
research team must have forgotten about this incident.

I'm kind of amazed the producers allowed Ozzy to continue interfacing
with the snake like that. Course that was back when Mark Burnett was
still show runner and the players were less protected. Nowadays, I
think production might have stepped in, especially if the snake is as life-threatening as everyone says.

Those snakes are very deadly. Has being based in Fiji for so long
resulted in better crews? It would be nice to be able to see the safety
binder for that season. Did it not include the snake? Also, how in the
hell did Ozzy catch that snake without getting bit?

The only thing that occurs to me is that Mark Burnett was still running
the show in Micronesia, and I just don't think they were as protective
of the players back then as they are now. In the early years, Survivor
was presented as an actual survival experience, and I think the players
had a lot more freedom than they do now. Remember how Skupin killed
that wild pig for meat? That would never be allowed today. Jeff took
over with season 21 and over time has put his stamp on the show's
production. That probably includes more protection for the players and
    more specific safety guidelines.

As for how Ozzy caught the snake and was able to handle it so casually
without getting hurt, I think that was just Ozzy being Ozzy. He's
apparently had a lot of experience with the outdoors and with wildlife,
and I guess he just knew what he was doing. Either that or he was just
    really lucky.

I'm surprised CBS didn't force them to be safe from the start to avoid
    legal implications.

Yes, I remember the wild pig. IIRC, earlier this season we discussed the goat(s) incident from Game Changers. Killing animals still happens, we
just get deceptive edits to make it unclear what really happened.

Where would he get experience handling a sea snake? If that had happened
in the game would production have freaked out?

It's not experience in handling a sea snake, just snakes in general.
Most snakes aren't that aggressive so being able to catch one and
staying safe is doable. The aggressive snakes (and of course those
that spit) are the ones that you really have to be extra cautious
because some will chase you if you upset them. That said I wouldn't
want to be handling a snake that can kill me.

Ozzy must be one hell of a risk taker. Apparently Sea Kraits are not
docile and shy, and won't attack humans unless provoked. You'd think
picking one up and "playing" with it result in an attack.
