• CBS press release confirms no double TC for S49 Ep08

If you've seen any previews for next week you'll know that they are
doing another tribe split and that the winning tribe wins immunity.
They've done this nonsense before. The tribe split also explains why
Jeff did not want the Sophi(e)s to go by old tribe colors. The tribe
split for next episode is as follows:

    Blue

    Jawan
    Sage
    MC
    Sophie
    Rizo

    Yellow

    Steven
    Alex
    Kristina
    Sophi
    Savannah

Here's a tweet from Mike Bloom with more info.

Just because I've seen some talk about it, CBS confirms via press
release that this week's #Survivor49 is NOT a double Tribal Council

Instead, it talks about "group immunity is on the line." Most likely
just split with one team winning and not voting, like we saw with the
    Matt Blankinship and Tiyana boots.

New Era Survivor is way too random. I wonder who the unlucky person is
going to be next week? It is kind of interesting that for the first time
other than the challenge last week, that Rizo and Savannah are on
    different tribes.

This is really so ridiculous. We are in the individual part of the
game, where is where the players can make or break their seasons based
on their own individual game play and strategy, so why are we going back
to these random tribe divisions? Who makes these choices? We know Jeff
is show runner and the ultimate approver, but I wonder who comes up with
    the specific individual episode plans?

But note that Savannah and Sophi are together. I wonder if this is
    where their bond really forms?

Just looking at the split and not knowing anything about the challenge,
I have to say that the Jawan-Sage-MC-Sophie_Rizo tribe might be slightly stronger physically, if it's that kind of challenge.

I would think the producers layout the season in advance with some input
from CBS to fit any schedule changes they have planned.

It could be. MC's replanted idol could come into play. If Steven, Alex,
or Kristina find it and Sophi finds out, she could save Savannah at TC
with her Knowledge is Power advantage. If that happens I think it will
    be the end for Steven.

Just looking at the split and not knowing anything about the challenge,

IIRC, these split tribe challenges are usually endurance and the players compete individually. I could see Savannah going all out knowing she's probably the biggest target.

If it wasn't for the snake taking out Jake, I'm pretty sure we would
have had the hated "Earn the Merge" crap and the next episode would have
been a double. At least one player was spared from randomness.

I know, but someone must take the lead in saying "let's do a traditional
merge and make it seem just like the old days and then next episode
we'll have them split back into two tribes...", etc. I wonder if that
was Jeff himself or Matt or a tweet from Tyler Perry or who knows who.

That would really be interesting if Savannah gets saved and then goes on
to win the season. I could be wrong about this, but I can't recall any
season of Survivor where a player is saved by someone else playing an
idol on them, and that player goes on to win the season. We've seen
examples of players saving themselves with an idol and then winning the
season (Ben comes to mind), but I don't recall a player being saved by
another player's idol and then winning the season.

Yes, there could definitely be some Sliding Doors effect on the game of
Jake leaving that we will probably never know about. In the early days
of the show, when a player got hurt (like with Skupin) they just didn't
have TC that night. I wonder if they considered doing that here? I
know TC is important to the show and Jeff since it's the one time he
gets to talk with the players, so that's probably a big part of why they
feel they have to include it. I suppose they could do what I saw on an international season once where a player got medically removed but they
held TC anyway and just told the players at the end that no one was
going home due to the injury evac.

I think it's a team effort along with a lot of copy and paste from the
prior season. Maybe Jeff will write a book on the process one day. Or
better yet, let someone such as Dalton or Mike Bloom do so.

New Era Survivor is way too random. I wonder who the unlucky person

If it happens I'm sure someone will dig up the answer. I'm also starting
to wonder if Sophi does extremely well this season but didn't get the
call for S50 because they wanted a guy and a girl from S49.

With 90 minute episodes now, I don't see them ever not having a boot in
    an episode.
