    Sorry, Daddy HAD become something of an asshole, but
    nothing compared to the fanatical ayatollahs.

    Iran, at the time, was caught in the middle of the
    Cold War, similar to Iraq. There was a contest
    between pro-Soviet and pro-Western interests, and
    the western interests were willing to do most
    anything to keep these countries from falling under
    Soviet control. The Soviets had their own hard-ass
    agenda too.

    Iran ... the goal was to oust the pro-western Shah
    by whatever means. The more they pressed the more
    paranoid and ruthless he became. When the Islamists
    arrived he was weak, had to flee.

    Of course the younger Pahlavi thinks HE is the
    rightful ruler.

    Don't think that's gonna happen.

    The best outcome is a DEMOCRATIC(-like) govt
    in Iran ... no ayatollahs, or shah's, ruling
    everything.
