Mobs of motorcycle-riding armed militia hunt Venezuelan streets
for Trump supporters as crackdown intensifies

    VenezuelarCOs pro-regime 'colectivos' are aggressively
establishing checkpoints under Diosdado Cabello, a top
Maduro ally with $25 million US bounty

    . . .

Looks like they figured out we weren't going to
send a huge army there - meaning they can keep
    the Maduro money-train running.

Random groups are beyond what cruise missiles
and such can deal with, no stationary, compact,
target. An army would find these guys hard to
    deal with.

While Maduro IS a shit, deserved to be snatched,
it's hard to see how this changes things inside
the country. Some #2 will shoot his way to being
the new #1, quickly. The gangs will continue, the
dope will continue, the illegal oil will continue,
cooperation with China and Russia will continue.

Similar problem in Columbia ... simply dropping a
missile on Petro will have little effect beyond
creating a vacancy one of his cronies will fill
    almost overnight.

Maybe in the VERY old days you could kill the King
and everyone would immediately bow down. Well, those
days are gone. Afghanistan should be a lesson here,
even WITH an army behind you very few are going to
bow down - they'll just smile and wave and then
    shoot you in the back.

Finally, the 'Monroe Doctrine' is WAY WAY out of
date. That was from a world of empires and kings
where the strongest were SURE they had Holy Right
to command everyone else. Nobody thinks that way
    anymore.

Want to push China and Russia and Iran out of
    south America ? Well, OUT-COMPETE them ...
more and better deals, more grease for the
    local overlords.
