Widely prescribed opioid shows minimal pain relief and higher
heart risk, study finds
A widely prescribed opioid painkiller showed limited effectiveness
and increased risk of negative effects in a new analysis published
in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine.
The study examined tramadol, a common prescription opioid used to
treat chronic pain.
Tramadol has historically been perceived as a safer or less
addictive opioid, which has contributed to its widespread use
in chronic pain treatment, the study authors noted.
. . .
In the current environment - obsessed with people
even possibly getting a little buzz from meds -
it's clear why this crap got priority.
Got bad pain - then a good dose of codeine or
hydrocodone is yer bet. It works. It'll make
you feel better. Yep, you CAN get kinda hooked
on it, but few do.
Those most at risk are people with "chronic pain"
like from destroyed spine discs and such. Also
people with cancer - but what the hell does it
MATTER then eh ? Actually, really NOT much to
do about spines either ... when yer fucked then
yer fucked and 'fixes' mostly make it WORSE.
And, finally, the TRUE reality ... anyone who WANTS
opiate-type drugs can GET them - curbside service
with a smile - in several parts of town. The med
community imagines it's all-powerful here ... but
it's a giant lie.
