US sawmills warn of accelerating closures as tariffs, weak
    demand squeeze industry

US hardwood producers say years of tariffs, shrinking exports
and competition from low-cost wood alternatives have combined
into a rCLperfect storm" now forcing sawmills across the country
    to shut down.

    . . .

And why cut down the USA when you can cut down
the Amazon rain forest eh ? :-)

In any case, fake wood IS now really good and will
surely get even better. Plastic, some pulp, some
    bubbles = desired look-n-feel, and termites won't
    eat it.

Now in truth, hardwood furnishings in fair environs
can have 200+ year lifespans. The plastic stuff will
not last that long. However modern consumers don't
really CARE. The fake stuff is cheap, looks good, and
will last 25 years or so ... and then you burn it and
buy the latest fashion. This is mostly an American
perspective ... most Euros will go for the real stuff.
Ergo surviving US producers should look to the EU.
