Former longtime ABC News reporter says network was biased
by RAY LEWIS | The National News DeskThu, July 31st 2025 at 11:41 AM
WASHINGTON (TNND) rCo A former longtime ABC News reporter said Tuesday the network was biased during his time with it.
Terry Moran, who worked as a correspondent and anchor in his 27 years at
the network, wrote in a post on his Substack publication ABC News was rCLalmost inadvertentlyrCY biased due to a lack of rCLviewpoint diversity.rCY
rCLWere we biased? Yes. Almost inadvertently, IrCOd say. ABC News has the
same problem so many leading cultural institutions do in America: A lack
of viewpoint diversity,rCY he said in a post on rCLReal Patriotism with
Terry Moran.rCY
The outlet employs hardly anyone who supported President Donald Trump,
Moran claimed, noting that other rCLcorporate/legacy/mainstreamrCY news networks are similar.
"And this is bound to impact coverage, not so much out of malevolent
bias (thatrCOs the cartoon version peddled by Trump, Brendan Carr and
online MAGA), but more out of what is a kind of deafness,rCY Moran
explained, referring to Federal Communications Commission Chairman
Brendan Carr and TrumprCOs online supporters.
Moran said the rCLoldrCY news divisions donrCOt rCLhearrCY many of the rCLvoices of
the countryrCY since those rCLvoicesrCY arenrCOt in their newsrooms. While some
teams accost with microphones and cameras attendees of rallies held by
Trump, the result is an inaccurate package, Moran noted as an example.
rCLTo me that often comes off as weirdly anthropological and inaccurate,
kind of like trying to understand nature by visiting a zoo,rCY he said.
rCLYou donrCOt really see a tiger at the zoo, just a version of a tiger.rCY
ABC News reportedly decided to not renew MoranrCOs contract last month,
when he criticized Trump and White House Deputy Chief of Staff for
Policy Stephen Miller in a social media post. The network reportedly
said in a statement to other outlets the post, in which Moran claimed
Trump and Miller are "world-class" haters, was in violation of ABC News policies.
Moran said Tuesday he doesnrCOt rCLtake back or regret a syllablerCY of his post and that he actually had a workplace reputation of trying to help coworkers "to see the other side, to walk a mile in the shoes of MAGA,
to acknowledge the democratic forces that have made Donald Trump the
dominant political figure of our time.rCY
rCLSo, yes, from my perspective, the old news networks are biased,rCY he continued.
The National News Desk requested comment from ABC News Thursday around
10:10 a.m. but did not receive a response by publication.
