This is an automated message posted to you via POSTMASTER for
    DROPPING CARRIER!

Since you are getting this message it is being brought to your
attention that you are disconnecting from the BBS in a fashion
that is frowned upon and not desired as it can cause problems for
some of the software (on-line games, etc) and may cause the BBS
to not setup the modem for the next caller to successfully log
in to. Please refrain from shutting off the modem, or any other
way of disconnecting other than using the [G] Goodbye & Logoff
    option.

Failure to comply will result in your access being cut for a
period of time and continued use of improper log-offs will result
in your accounts' termination. If you are having problems
staying connected or your modem is experiencing difficulties,
please inform the SysOp (MICHAEL B ABBOTT) about it so that this
issue can be resolved in a timely and understanding manner.
Your co-operation and understanding is greatly appreciated.

The full phrase appears to have evolved over a series of months on two separate
alt.folklore newsgroups where a number of threads exist lamenting what they saw
as an increase in low-quality posts across various newsgroups. Several members of
the newsgroups referenced aspects of the "September" issue, typically in a joking
    manner.
In a thread on January 8, 1994, Joel Furr cross-posted asking "Is it just me, or
has Delphi unleashed a staggering amount of weirdos on the net?", which garnered
a reply from Karl Reinsch "Of course it's perpetually September for Delphi users,
isn't it?"[5] The day before, Furr had also posted the same message to >alt.folklore.urban, where David Fischer responded with a joke call-to-action >where he referred to the increasing numbers of Delphi users as the "Never-Ending-
September".[6] Fischer also replied to a different thread on January 25, 1994, in
alt.folklore.computers saying, "It's moot now. September 1993 will go down in net
history as the September that never ended."[7][8] This quote has been suggested
to have been the first reference.[9]
Possibly the first use of the "Eternal September" phrase was a newsgroup post by
John William Chambless in February 1994. He posted a rant including some excerpts
of low-quality articles he found in one of his newsgroups that day, but titled >the post "The Eternal September".[10] >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September#cite_note-Chambless-10
    ...

Is it just me, or has Delphi unleashed a staggering amount of weirdos on
    the net?

Did they open up booths in mental institutions around the country,
    handing out modems and accounts?

success! this onion address works for localhost (using omnimix): >3nxvtk6l6fvjel6egccgo5zcerivvvz27ahsdjthvxc7focidpr2xlyd.onion

sampled article headers in obscure newsgroup "ab.general" show:
    path: archive.newsdeef.eu!archive!apf8.newsdeef.eu!nnrp.usenet...
    ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ ^^

so this "onion" should work with any newsreader on localhost/127.0.0.1 using tor e.g. on port 9150, i've always used tor browser but omnimix also has tor

browsing encryption-related newsgroups, alt.privacy, alt.privacy.anon-server, alt.security, alt.security.pgp, sci.crypt, etc., (sci.crypt ~1155351 headers, oldest article 1986-10-10) reveals the overall signal-to-noise ratio improves with age, with spam gradually increasing, then skyrocketing after circa ~2000 depending on the newsgroup of course . . . politics and religion is the worst

usenet archives are invaluable, this is the first "onion" nntp i've ever used
