• Firefox for Android - changed menu

    From s|b@me@privacy.invalid to alt.comp.software.firefox,comp.mobile.android on Sat Feb 28 13:27:04 2026

What the hell did they do to the menu in Firefox for Android 148? They
went from a small, accessible menu to a gigantic monster.

I think the change was in v147, I find it ok on a tablet, haven't really
    taken much notice on phone

Apparently this started in 141, but yesterday was the first time I
noticed the change (and I use Fx daily). I don't like it at all; my
thumb isn't long enough to operate it.

Me neither. As far as I can tell, it wasn't a major paradigm shift.

Yeah, the change happened a couple of weeks ago and it fell under the
typical Firefox "it wasn't broke so they fixed it" behaviour. Not the
first time that they have disrupted features that I use in the Android
FF, and it is the main reason there have been several forks in the PC
    version.

I'm talking specifically about Samsung Internet/Browser for Android,
    not their tablets/phones as hardware.
The Province of British Columbia has a (supposedly secure) app as a
    gateway into government services, including some federal programs;
ditto with a specific app for my major bank. I'd never use a browser
on a phone for those... even the banking app isn't engaged much. And
the tablet is purely for general info/entertainment.

    It it's an add-on (i.e. not pre-installed) non-paid app, you can
probably 'sideload' an older version from one of the many third-party app-stores. I mainly use(d) apkpure.com.

If this concerns one specific app, then please give the 'id=...'

Thankfully, there doesnrCOt seem to be much of that here in NZ. I can
access my banking, the tax department, and various online shops on the

The tax department are a bit odd, though. On the one hand, they donrCOt
like me opening multiple tabs while logged in to their site; on the
other hand, they want me to enable popups (blocked by default in
Firefox) to show me letters, statements etc.

When there is a peculiar site like that, you can create a new profile,
    and use it thus (Linux)

    firefox -P Taxes &

There you can have different settings, and have only one tab.
