I went ahead and installed it anyway because I kept getting messages to
do it. And yes, I know how to prevent them but I was in a hurry because
I was busy doing my income taxes.

    Then I immediately disabled AI:

Settings/AI Controls/Block AI enhancements/toggle the switch to the on position.

So far, no problems. And if I want to use AI to answer a question, I
simply go to either Copilot or Gemini.

The difficulty I have with backing up my browser's profile is finding a time-slot when the browser is not running, normally it's active if the

On Linux, before allowing the install from the repository, use the
profile manager to create a new profile, then allow the install. That
    should accomplish the same thing.

On Windows, unless doing the install from the Microsoft Store (is that a
thing for Firefox?), I don't know how you'd time it to create the new
    profile before automatic update.

That's why it's better to disable automatic update & do it manually.

But then you at least should backup places.sqlite (bookmarks and URL
history), and maybe those files related to passwords (Lockwise?).

The simple solution is to use a script or batch file to backup the the
profile (or just the important files in the profile) BEFORE starting
Firefox. The firefox-profile-yyyymmdd.7z should have a timestamp of course.

Since you cannot predict when the automatic update would happen, you

IME (multiple), if you 'install' (not 'update') Ffox, the installation
process undoes/turns off the 'let me choose' radio button.
The user has to re-set to the 'check only' option. Re-checking that
also requires a click in open space on the page to lock the choice.
Moz Thunderbird doesn't interfer with the choice should the user
    'install' a downloaded new version.

IME (multiple), if you 'install' (not 'update') Ffox, the installation process undoes/turns off the 'let me choose' radio button.

The user has to re-set to the 'check only' option. Re-checking that
also requires a click in open space on the page to lock the choice.

Exactly, Your Honor! Dead on! So check the update settings again after
every update. What am I talking??? :)

Then only places.sqlite is important, and maybe favicons.sqlite. But I
don't need site icons. SO basically I only backup places.sqlite.

So you're saying that Firefox developers have a different approach for

The best they can do is reinvent Linux-style package management on
