• UK Sissies Afraid of of Winter

I laugh when I see all those web sites showing what a disaster the winter weather is in the UK when temperatures reach -6 C. That temp comes out about 21 degrees Fahrenheit.

These UK sissies ought to try the US Midwest weather at 0 to 10 F - which is -17 C to - 12 C.

I drove from the great lakes to west coast in Jan 1967.

We stopped somewhere in Nebraska (middle of US North). It was -36 F. which is ironically
about -37 c. It was COLD!!! the engine oil froze. We had to push the car into a near
by gas station and asked if we could leave it there while we went for breakfast across the
screen. It did start after a while. Never have seen it that cold.

We got to Salt Lake City Utah (almost there) which is in a valley, over the Rockies. When
we came down out of the Rockies the temp went up to freezing, 32 F. That was a change of
68 degrees. We were standing in the snow with t-shirts on. To us it was warm!!!!

    It is all relative.

When I was 6 or 7 years old, I lived in the Midwest--Indiana to be
specific. I joined a tackle football league that met, practiced, and
played in a local park. All of us kids had "real" uniforms: padded
pants, shoulder pads, cleats, etc, and when it was cold we had on wool
pants and sweaters (and another layer or two underneath). The ground was
rock hard, all our teeth were chattering, the wind was blowing. We
probably all were sure that the experts were wrong: Hell isn't hot.

One such cold winter day, a strange kid who none of us know walked over
to watch our practice. He was strange as in a stranger and he was
strange because this was one of those cold days I described above and he
was wearing shorts and a tee shirt! Our coach stared at the kid for a
little bit then asked "Hey kid, are you an Eskimo or something?" The kid
says "Yes sir." Then added that his family had just moved down to the
states from Alaska (then still a territory for another decade). By the
next year the kid was shivering and bitching about the weather just like
    the rest of us.

Well, I viewed the link in Firefox/Android. But I never got
    further than this: <https://i.ibb.co/JjGnqCNh/Screenshot-20260106-122159-Firefox-Beta.jpg>
    (Link should self-destruct in 24hrs.)

Actually, I was surprised by the word 'sissies'. Comparing Collins
(UK) and Webster (US) I find the US meaning to be more limited
(though the implied insult is much the same). Perhaps it warrants
    an entry here:

It gets answers from fools like yourself who have no self discipline when it comes to feeding trolls. Without answers, trolls like myself would die off.

Besides, it did get some interesting answers from Alan and Jeff.

    Troll wins. You lose.

I've been out in that. No rain. No wind. It wasn't cold.
