Not again. You did do a web search describing your problem, and thus
    get hits with hints?

AFAIC, Usenet is older than the web and it's the first place to turn, especially for a cut and dried question like this. Google search,
especially when "supplmented" by SCAI (so-called AI) is no substitute
    for human intelligence.

It occurred to me that Customize Toolbar might have the answer, but New
Tab was not one of the options shown**. However at the same time I
looked at the customize options, something called the Overflow [area]
opened up and it was small and hard to tell but the New Tab icon was in
    the overflow area.

The note said it was to make space while keeping options handy. It's not
yet handy for me since I don't know how to open the Ovefflow area, and
more to the point, I'd rather they put Tab Counter, which I almost never
look at, in the over area than New Tab, which I use many times a day.

**Perhaps it disappeared from the set of options since it was in use,
even if was hidden in the Overflow area.

It was there in 146.0 and when I upgraded just now to 146.0.1 it was
still there. Same place as always, on the far right end of the tab bar.

    FFS:
Search: "Firefox new tab + disappeared" (without quotes; that should

Thanks. Almost exactly right and definitely the right direction. It
turned out to be a little more compliated than that, as my earlier reply
shows. I don't remembver Tab Counter showing all the time but something
made it show up, and maybe that took up so much space it forced out New
    Tab.

I also noticed that when there is an update available, at the top of the hamburger list is Restart. That's good.

Exactly. Personally, I can't remember a time when I only had a few tabs
open. I currently have 625 open tabs in this instance of Firefox, but it
varies widely, from a high of about 1200 to a low of about 420. So for
me, the new tab icon is pinned to the far right of the tab bar, but at
least it's always visible, unlike what happens at mickey's house.

Yes, I've seen some funny ones on subtitles too. Can't remember examples
now. Some youtube videos already have subtitles, but you can have
live subtitles, captions, in addition by pressing C.

Sometimes one will be right and the other wrong and sometimes it's he
    other way around.

On both my laptops the live subtitles often obscure the ones that are
built in, but on the desktop with the bigger monitor, it seems there is
room for both and the program knows how to make one not overlay the
    other.

It disappeared again, but this time I got it back more quickly.

This is in win11. In win10 I've had far more tabs total and far more
tabs in one window, without this ever happening. Another victory for
    win11.
