• Should Extensions and Javascript be able to override webbrowser shortcuts?

    From Schugo@schugo@schugo.de to alt.comp.software.firefox on Fri Dec 19 16:26:48 2025
    From Newsgroup: alt.comp.software.firefox

    Hi!

    Examples:

Discord website captures CTRL+i (Page Information).

    The Dictionairiez extension captures CTRL+SHIFT+X
(change between LTR/RTL in input fields)

There should be an option to disallow that!

    ciao...

There is. Turn off javascript or leave it on but control it with
    NoScript, the most widely-used extension.

    According to this <https://webextension-api.thunderbird.net/en/mv2/commands.html>
an addon needs the 'commands' permission to use keyboard
shortcuts. So you may be able to remove that permission. Which
might stop the addon working at all. It might just display errors
in the console (ctrl-shift-J) on loading.

I would expect it to allow you to change the shortcut to avoid a clash.

nevermind... I found the config setting to disallow (see other post)

Extension shortcuts have even priority over JavaScript.

IMHO: The Broswer is the host and should not be overidden by it's guests
    by default.

Absolutely not. I don't remember ever having used a website's
