• How secure is FFx's Anon View of a Web page?

    From max@max@here.net to alt.comp.software.firefox on Tue Dec 2 21:51:05 2025
    From Newsgroup: alt.comp.software.firefox

    I'm using FFx ver. 115.15.0esr.

How secure is their anon view setting of a page? It supposed to hide
    your DNS, IP and Location.

None of it. It is not anonymous. It is just a myth. Read all about it here:

    Good luck.

What "anon view setting" are you posting about?

    Did you mean Private Browsing?

It supposed to hide your DNS, IP and Location.

    Where did you read that?

    If you meant Private Browsing...

Private Browsing works just the same as Private Browsing in other web browsers. That is, Private Browsing protects you from people with
    access to your computer.
For example, if you want to buy a surprise present for the wife but
you don't want her to find out by looking at your browsing history.
Private Browsing works the same way in other web browsers.

How to you could find this out yourself...

Go open a new Private Browsing window in 115.15.0esr:
menu | New Private Window (Ctrl+Shift+P)
    Read the text:
"Firefox clears your search and browsing history when you close
all private windows, but this doesnrCOt make you anonymous.
    Learn more."
    Click the "Learn more" link.
Then read the web page ("Common Myths about Private Browsing").

I was not asking about Privacy Browsing. I was asking about when i
Search using Startpage.com and the Search results have a choice of
clicking on the regular link or on the "Visit in Anonymous View" link to
take you to the site. The anon link states your IP, DNS nor Location
will be shown. It is that 'anon' link that I wonder about as to its
    true security.

I screwed up in my OP by stating it was a FFx link. It wasn't. It was Startpage's Anon view link.

I think the closest thing to you want is the extension Secret Agent from <https://www.dephormation.org.uk/index.php?page=81>. This still works
with SeaMonkey 2.53.22. However, see <https://www.dephormation.org.uk/index.php?page=86> regarding Firefox.

I am not sure you can browse the Web while hiding your IP address.
After all, how is a Web server to know where to send the HTML and CSS
    without your IP address?

Some Republican officials have denounced the assassination
of Charlie Kirk as a conspiracy by liberal Democrats. Why
then is the attempted kidnapping of the Democrat governor
of Michigan, the shooting of a Democrat state senator of
Minnesota, and the assassination of the Democrat speaker
of the Minnesota state assembly not denounced as a
    conservative Republican conspiracy?

The VPN owners get that info. You hide the info from your ISP, but the
VPN providers get it instead. Your choice.

    You might use TOR, but...

Do you think the web site your browsing knows your info when you are
using VPN? The VPN server is part of the trusted chain, i.e., the user
is supposed to use as much care as he deems worthwhile in selecting a
    VPN provider.

I can imagine your precise location being hidden, Firefox can presumably
block that information if you tell it to. What do you mean by "your
DNS"? As for IP Address, no chance without a VPN.
