Bottom right of the player... L-to-R: first a 'slider' which
identifies itself when hovered over (then CC for
sub-titles/Settings/Theatre mode/Full screen prompts).

Win 11 Home 25H2... Ffox 145.0.2... YouTube's player comes up
indicating "Autoplay is on" but content is blocked by my config
settings. That's without signing in.
Not being a regular YT user, I have no intention of logging into
Googly to change/test their setting. It'd prolly be ignored anyway as
I kill cookies on closing Firefox.

Not happening to me, in any of my various machines (some with google
login, some without), except on my kitchen TV.
The TV works differently. I choose the youtube app in the tv; then I
choose some video on the phone, and tap "cast" to send it to the TV set. When that video ends, it starts another a few seconds later, and I have
not seen yet a button to disable this. FFx is not involved in this case.

In about:cofnig, search for "autoplay". make sure that:
media.autoplay.block-event.enabled = true
media.autoplay.blocking_policy = 2
media.autoplay.default = 5
Are you sure the autoplay switch in the player means
the same as in the broswer settings? A few years ago
that switch was on the right top above the suggested
videos. It was meant to stop playing the next video
or playlist item automatically.

Also strange: the autoplay switch doesn't appear
in music playlists and always loads the next song
and also autoplays after pageload. (with above settings)

Mr. Man-wai Chang has already come through with most of the suggested
changes from over the years but I also have a fourth set to false:
media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages

Do you mean automatically starting the video when you click on a youtube URL, or auto playing the next video after the previous one has ended?

Yes, those are the longstanding changes I've used.
Also: media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages
Set that to false

In another reply, Carlos said it's not important.
At least, not with YouTube. There are news media sites that are very insistent on having their videos download and play. And when you browse
down, a small pop up video window appears. It is a pest on mobile
phones, making us download videos when it is possible that we have to
pay the download. Or we are in a place where silence is required.
