can open and save files on your computer. You don't need to log in if
you don't want to save your file on Google Drive.

Opening the text file in a client-side editor, one of the tiny
things you didn't notice was the cookie that was set when
you did that, and now Google knows you have examined the
content of the document. In the same way as enumerable spams
sent here have 1x1 pixel image files, and other things,
for generating tracking information that I have received
the message and absorbed its content.

This might not have happened, if you were opening a local
text file in Notepad. It does not have to report anything
directly.

There are client side tools which are guileless. They don't
exist to make a profit. And, you will also notice, that
Google never sends a communication "wrapped" in one of those,
because the principles who make the web content, aren't
doing that for money. They're not sending tracking data
to Google.

I tried it on one text file.
It worked but I noticed the info on that link says there is an icon for download.
Nowhere did I see download.
I found 'terminal' theme to look better for me.

It might be a useful link on my phone so I could directly edit those files.
On my laptop, I would use my default text editor locally.

web app' as a simple text editor? On top of that one, where you need to configure "privacy settings"?!
There are literally thousands of good text editors out there for fucking
every operating system since the 80ies.

It's one of the reason such products/services exist, and there will be more
of them. The other reason is: vanity.

As for the original topic, it's clearly NOT a Google product.

It uses Google name servers, which anyone can do by using Google Domains.
This does not mean Google owns or endorses the site.

Scam Detector gives it a very low trust score (22.3/100) & flags it as suspicious.

This looks like a phishing or malware delivery attempt, or at minimum a
social engineering trick to get us to trust a third-party site by falsely associating it with Google.

My advice is run... run away... run away as fast as we can!
