I tried to connect my win11 laptop to bluetooth headphones. Usually the
Bose Hearphones does not show up on the Add a Device list, but I managed
to get there three times, each time by scrolling down to it on the
Bluetooth & Dvices > Devices list, finding it and removing it from the
list. Then I can find it in the Add Device list and connect it***, but
it quickly becomes unconnected (even though it plays just fine with my
    phone.

So the list of bluetooth devices in the laptop included the headphones
and said it was connected, but I guess it bacame unconnected by the time
I got to Setings > System > Sound in the list of devices when I click on
    Add Device on that page.

***Sometimes it says "Coulnd't connect. Try coonnecting again."

I tried the Bluetooth troubleshooter but it seems happy and content when
it foud that the Bluetooth radio was radiating. It was interested in
Greyed out or Off, but not in what I could or could not connect to!

The troubleshooter seemed really happy to add the Bluetooth icon to my
taskbar, but to me that's like giving me a Tootsie Roll and then telling
    me to go away.

Any suggestions of what to do next?

Where do you think the Blluetooth antenna is on a Dell laptop? Although
I took he Hearphones off and lay them on the keyboard it still didn't
show up while 5 things that are not even in my townhouse did show up!
Quest35 and M700EUJ and 2 "unknown devices" included!

It took me a while hut I finally understod the eproblem. My bluetooth headphones (Bose Hearphones) connec4t but quickly disconnect***. I've
read 3 webpage aout this and they all give the same possible causes,
caises that dont apply to my computer or headphones.

was connected and the inabilty to play audio through them, to set it to
play through them on the page where one did that. I hadn't considered
that they disconnected so quickly (and for no apparent reason)l

"Paired" is one level of operation. It means the devices know the
MAC of their mate and that the user has in some way, validated
the pairing. These kinds of technical articles, never map
the real world (what you're trying to do, what the "symptoms" are)
to the states in here. What is described in these kinds of
articles, is the component parts, but without any illustrations
of what a "worst case" could be.

    https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/technical-articles/understanding-bluetooth-le-pairingstep-by-step/

"Connected" is when a connection is set up for a "session".
To save power, you could drop to a lower power state, but
the receiver on the headphones still has to be listening
for a prompt from the host. Notice that this article does
    not mention pairing.

    https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/technical-articles/breaking-down-the-ble-link-layer-the-seven-states-of-bluetooth-low-energy-radio/

What we learn from this, is it is perfectly OK for a connection
to drop, but, the important part is... should the user have to
do stuff, or should the thing "just work when you play a tune" ?
That's what is missing from the articles -- the "user state diagram"
where the user is "puzzled", "cursing", "doing naughty things to the GUI" :-)

As a dumb user, I can never be sure when my BT thingy is ready to do
work. For example, if I use FSquirt, it might complain it is not
connected (even though I paired it already). I thought making a
connection should be automatic. I just cannot be sure that is the case.
With FSquirt, you tell the receiving end to "get ready for incoming transmission". Which means from a logical perspective, we're already
alert to the situation and is should now work without any additional fuss.

Whereas, if I do Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) over BT and this
is a TCP/IP stack, packets can be transmitted at any time and I
don't have to coax the stupid thing. If I want to do FTP over
that link (the equivalent of FSquirt but without the fuss), I can
    do it! My shocked face.

So something is a bit "askew" with this behavior. The documentation
implies connections can be fuss free, while the user experience
does not entirely match that. Only some BT profiles are seemingly
    fuss-free.

    *******

The average laptop Wifi module has two antenna wires. The Bluetooth
chip (can be USB connected on the module) is WiredOR with
one of the antenna cables. There was a claim the
transmissions of the two chips were somehow coordinated,
but I doubt that is actually true. I'm just not finding
any description of such a coordination.

    BT |-----+
    |
    v
    |-----+-------- - - - (behind laptop display)
    Wifi |
    |-------------- - - - (behind laptop display)

The Wifi uses very wide channels, but it also needs guard
bands between these channels. BT uses very narrow channels.
Which might be the secret to how it coexists.

BT uses spread spectrum frequency hopping, it has something
like 85 one megahertz wide channels, and it changes the
channel 1200 times a second. To watch that, you'd need
a Software Defined Radio (SDR) with a fast enough ADC
to handle the entire 85MHz of channels. Then, the SDR could
"follow" the channel hopping. Now that BT has more encryption
capabilities, the SDR may not necessarily be able to convert
    all conversations easily, into plaintext.

I have a pair of expensive headphones that do this (Sennheiser). It
happens in Linux, but it is similar to what you describe.

The day I boot the laptop, they work fine. Days later (hibernating the
machine in between), they connect for an instant, then disconnect. I can
not play any sound. Nothing will convince the thing to work. I don't
know exactly at what time after booting it stops working.

I just use another pair of headphones, cheaper, which work fine under
this circumstance. If I want to use the good pair, I have to reboot.
