• Outlook 365 email address autocomplete delete item

    Google suggests:

    Start a new email
Type the first few characters of the relevant email address into the
    "To:" field.

The AutoComplete function will show all the matching entries. Select
the one you wish to delete (using mouse or keyboard). Delete it using
the "Delete" key or by clicking the cross to its right.

In all previous versions of Outlook this has worked.

But in Outlook 365 the selected email address is not deleted.

Anybody know how to resolve this, please?

    Outlook 365
    Desktop(Classic)?
    Outlook(new) - optional UI in Desktop(Classic) edition?
    Outlook 365 mobile app?
Outlook 365(Microsoft 365) for business edition?

    Outlook 365 installed version/build?
M365 Apps for Windows Current Channel(applies to Enterprise, Apps for Business)
    - latest is Version 2511 (Build 19426.20218)
    M365 Monthly Enterprise Channel
    - latest is Version 2510 (Build 19328.20266)
    M365 Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel
    - latest is Version 2502 (Build 18526.20672)

    M365 Desktop(Classic) - Personal and Family edition
    - latest can be any of these three due to the staged rollout(not all
deployed to every client at the same time)
    Version 2512 (Build 19530.20108) Dec. 29 2025
    Version 2512 (Build 19530.20082) Dec. 23 2025
    Version 2512 (Build 19530.20074) Dec. 18 2025

On this device, M365 Family (Outlook Desktop[Classic])
    => 2512 Build 19530.20074
    - Autocomplete entries appear in a separate dialog box(each item can
be deleted using the Delete key or selecting the entry in the dialog box
    and clicking the 'X')
On another device(same M365 Family edition, same Microsoft account)
=> 2512 (Build 19530.20108) i.e. same product, same account, later deployed Build.
    - Exact same results - Autocomplete entries appear in a separate
dialog box(each item can be deleted using the Delete key or selecting
the entry in the dialog box and clicking the 'X')

You might try resetting Autocomplete - toggle off, close Outlook,
restart device, logon, open Outlook, toggle on.

Also, if more than one email address(using Exchange or IMAP) is
configured in Outlook ensure that your Autocomplete concern exists in
each account(they each have their own email address contact list). POP3 configured accounts default to the built-in default Contacts(in
    Outlook.pst).

The default installation was "New". User could not cope with it, so I reverted to "Classic", where it looks like the version running under
Windows 10 on an older PC.

I was showing the user what do do via a VNC connection and wonder
whether VNC fails to transfer some keystrokes and mouse clicks. Will
try it again when I am there in person.

    OP here with more info:

    "New" version. Google suggestion:

    <https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-e&q=outlook+365+autocomplete+off>

Instructions for New Outlook are wrong, can't find:
"3. Go to Mail > Smart suggestions (or Compose and reply)."

    Reverted to "Classic".
Version is Outlook 365 MSO (Version 2511 build 16.0.20218)
Google's instructions for Classic Outlook appear to be correct.
I used the "Empty Auto-Complete List" function.
Behaviour when creating a new email with an incomplete email address is
that on clicking "Send" a pop-up appears with a matching email address
taken from the contact list - this is the desired behaviour.

    Thanks for the help.
