A video player could adjust the resolution selection of

Usually, playback speed is a setting somewhere, but in Youtube
    I don't see a control for that.
    <snip>

I see Playback Speed under Settings on any YT video.

You should describe it so Micky can use it.

I was about to post what Char posted. I have used it. That's where I
saw the speed was Custom 0.7. I have assumed all videos come set to
speed 1, and only users change the speed. But when I checked the 1.0
line, the list disappeared and it was still Custom 0.7. So I tried the
slider, and slid the indicator up to 1.4

Since I first posted, I found another video at Custom 0.7, and one at
    Custom 0.6.

I'm looking now at a People's Court video. It shows possible speeds up
to 4. When you choose 2.... not sure y et, but when you choose 4 it
says you can have that if you pay for Premium. So maybe they no
longer let you change speeds unless you pay. But that does't explain
why some videos come immutably set to lower than 1.0.

I looked at another People's Court video on yourtube and the speed was
1.3, couldn't sllow it down. They talked too fast for me to follow.

I posted in Reddit Youtube and 500 people have looked at it with no one replying!! There I mostly talked only about speed and didn't bring up
HD until the very end of the qustion.

Years ago I tried different speeds once and they worked, but I decided I
always wanted 1.0 or Normal. What I don't want is 0.7 since I'm
spending enough time on videos already, AND it changes the meaning of
the words when they are dragged out like the speaker is on drugs or
    sleepy.

Do you have a link or two? I hope speed-locked videos won't become the
    norm.

It turns out it was the Firefox add-on Global Speed.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I did have a list but it
turns out it had nothing to do with specific videos. I had installed an
add-on for Firefox called Global Speed. I only wanted it because it
allows drawing on webpages. As the name implies, it also controls the
speed of videos and even Listen Live from the websites of actual radio stations. I had assumed I'd have to opt-in when I wanted it to do that,
but instead it automatically did it for everything. I still don't know
why it was slower than normal at first and faster later.

I reviewed the add-on where Firefox provides for reviews and cautioneed
people about this, and the author wrote me the next day. He explained
how to turn off the speed control, but keep the drawing. (How to do that
is pretty obvious.) I've drawn on the screen, but haven't tried to
save it or show it (email it?) to anyone else (which is the whole
point), but I suppose that works and it can be very useful. All the
other screen drawing utilities I've seen have cost money and if I do
this once a year it will be a lot.

There is another flaw in youtube right now, dec 29th 2025, regardless of
the browswer aiui. If you touch the space bar quickly it pauses, or
restarts, the video, but if you hold the space bar down even a trifle,
it changes it to 2x speed. Google articles said this could be undone
by clicking on the progress bar, or using the arrow keys, but nothing
has worked for me except closing the tab and reopening it. Youtube
generally keeps track of where you were in the video. This is a big
enough flaw that surely?? youtube will find it and fix it pretty soon.

I also found, at least in this video, that, like the space bar, holding
the left mouse button down too long changes the speed to 2x, and again I couldn't get it to go back to 1x except by closing (ctrl-x) the video
and reopening. But I looked at Jeff's list and, though it doesn't
mention the mouse, it does say that < and > adjust the speed, and that <
to slow it down. That's good. Maybe that's what he was saying.

This seems to be true both when the video is in regular and full screen
    mode.
