    Short & Concise: Death

    -- King James
Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy
might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in
    the grave, whither thou goest.

    -- King James
Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in
that very day his thoughts perish.

    -- King James
John 11:11,14 These things said he: and after that he saith unto
them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out
    of sleep.
    14.-- King James
Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

Summery: The Bible says the dead are not conscious.

OMG! The JW bible agrees with atheists! This is bad optics for both of
    us.

Btw, does your AI struggle with spelling, or is "summery" just the
Sumerian spelling? Or maybe it meant the kind of weather that brings
out babes in their halter tops?

The Scriptures above were quoted from the KJV Bible, not the NWT. And
you will be surprised what the Bible REALLY teaches.

Thanks for the correction. My imperfection is showing its colors.
    Let's try "summary" instead.

    REFUTATION OF POST-DEATH NON-EXISTENCE

The argument that humans cease to exist or fall into an unconscious
"soul sleep" after death often relies on interpreting physical
descriptions of the body as spiritual descriptions of the soul. When the
Bible is viewed as a whole, it distinguishes between the corruptible
body (which "sleeps" in the grave) and the eternal spirit (which remains conscious).

    1. "NO KNOWLEDGE IN THE GRAVE"

THE PASSAGE: Ecclesiastes 9:10 - "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it
with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom
in Sheol, to which you are going." (Ecclesiastes 9:10, ESV)

THE EXPLANATION: Ecclesiastes is written from the perspective of life
"under the sun." It describes the physical reality of death from a
human, earthly observation. From the perspective of the living, the dead
no longer participate in the labor or wisdom of this world. Their
    earthly "work" has ended.

    THE SCRIPTURAL REFUTATION:

    rCo Luke 16:22-24:

The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The
rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he
lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his
    side. And
he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me...'

(Luke 16:22-24, ESV). The rich man is fully conscious, feels torment, recognizes others, and possesses the knowledge of his brothers still
    living on earth.

    rCo Revelation 6:9-10:

I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for
    the word
of God... They cried out with a loud voice, 'O Sovereign Lord,
    holy and
true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who
    dwell on the earth?'

(Revelation 6:9-10, ESV). These souls are not unconscious; they are
aware of the passage of time and the state of justice on earth.

    2. REFUTING "THOUGHTS PERISH"

THE PASSAGE: Psalms 146:4 - "When his breath departs, he returns to the
earth; on that very day his plans perish." (Psalms 146:4, ESV)

THE EXPLANATION: Note that the ESV (and the original Hebrew "eshtonoth") translates this as "plans" rather than general "thoughts." The Psalmist
is warning not to trust in human princes because when they die, their political agendas and earthly ambitions die with them. It does not mean
    their consciousness is annihilated.

    THE SCRIPTURAL REFUTATION:

rCo Philippians 1:21-23: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is
gain... I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart
and be with Christ, for that is far better." (Philippians 1:21-23,
ESV). If death resulted in the cessation of thought or existence,
it would not be "gain" or "far better" than serving Christ on
earth; it would be a void. Paul expected immediate, conscious
    fellowship with the Lord.

rCo 2 Corinthians 5:8: "Yes, we are of good courage, and we would
rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord." (2
Corinthians 5:8, ESV). Paul establishes that the moment a believer
is absent from the body, they are "at home" with the Lord, implying
    a conscious transition.

    3. REFUTING "LAZARUS SLEEPETH"

THE PASSAGE: John 11:11, 14 - "After saying these things, he said to
them, 'Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.'
... Then Jesus told them plainly, 'Lazarus has died.'" (John 11:11, 14, ESV)

THE EXPLANATION: Jesus uses "sleep" as a theological metaphor for the
body. Because Christ has the power to resurrect, death is as temporary
as waking someone from a nap. The New Testament uses "sleep" (koimao) to describe the physical bodies of believers (1 Thessalonians 4:14) because
they will one day be "awakened" in the resurrection. It describes the appearance of the body, not the activity of the soul.

    THE SCRIPTURAL REFUTATION:

rCo Luke 23:43: "And he said to him, 'Truly, I say to you, today you
will be with me in paradise.'" (Luke 23:43, ESV). Jesus did not say
"you will wake up in two thousand years." He promised the thief
immediate, conscious companionship that very day.

rCo Matthew 17:3: "And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah,
talking with him." (Matthew 17:3, ESV). Moses had been dead for
centuries, yet he was not "non-existent" or sleeping in a void; he
was recognizable, conscious, and engaged in conversation with
    Christ.

    SUMMARY OF THE INTERMEDIATE STATE

The Bible distinguishes between the physical body and the spirit. While
the body "sleeps" in the dust awaiting resurrection, the spirit remains conscious. For the believer, this means being "with Christ" (Philippians
1:23, ESV). For the unbeliever, it involves a conscious "punishment"
while awaiting the final judgment (2 Peter 2:9, ESV).

Would you like me to find any additional verses regarding the "second
death" in the Lake of Fire?
    --
Have you heard the good news Christ died for our sins (rCa), and God
    raised Him from the dead?

That Christ died for our sins shows we're sinners who deserve the death penalty. That God raised Him from the dead shows Christ's death
satisfied God's righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John
2:1-2). This means God can now remain just, while forgiving you of your
sins, and saving you from eternal damnation.

On the basis of Christ's death and resurrection for our sins, call on
the name of the Lord to save you: "For 'everyone who calls on the name
of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, ESV).
