The Plot to Kill Jesus
Mt 26:1-5; Lk 22:1-2; Jn 11:45-53
1 (Lk 22:1-2; Jn 13:1) Now the feasts of the Passover
and of Unleavened Bread were two days away.
And the chief priests and the scribes looked for a way to seize Him
secretly and kill Him.
2 But they said "Not on the feast day,
lest there will be an uproar among the people."
[1] After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread:
and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by
craft, and put him to death.
[2] But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the
people.
Matthew 26:1-5
The Plot to Kill Jesus
Mk 14:1-2; Lk 22:1-2; Jn 11:45-3
1 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, He said to His disciples,
2 (Mk 14:1-2; Lk 22:1-2) "You know that after two days is the Passover,
and the Son of Man will be betrayed to be crucified."
3 (Jn 18:24; Mt 26:57-58) Then the chief priests, the scribes,
and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest,
who was called Caiaphas,
4 and took counsel that they might take Jesus covertly and kill Him.
5 (Mt 27:24) But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people."
[1] And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
[2] Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
[3] Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the
elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
[4] And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
[5] But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
Luke 22:1-2
The Plot to Kill Jesus
Mt 26:1-5, 14-16; Mk 14:1-2, 10-11; Jn 11:45-53
1 (Mk 14:1-2; Ex 12:6-23) Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
which is called the Passover, drew near.
2 And the chief priests and scribes were seeking how to kill Jesus,
for they feared the people.
[1] Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. [2] And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for
they feared the people.
Mark 14:10-11
Judas' Agreement to Betray Jesus
Mt 26:14-18; Lk 22:3-6
10 (Jn 13:2; Mt 26:14-16) Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve,
went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.
11 When they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him silver.
So he looked for how he might conveniently betray Him.
[10] And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
[11] And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
Matthew 26:14-16
Judas' Agreement to Betray Jesus
Mk 14:10-11; Lk 22:3-6
14 (Mt 10:4; Lk 22:3-6) Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas
Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15 (Ex 21:32) and said to them, "What will you give me if I hand Him over
to you?" And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.
16 From that moment he searched for an opportunity to betray Him.
[14] Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
[15] And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto
you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
[16] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Luke 22:3-6
3 (Jn 13:2; Mk 14:10-11) Then Satan entered into Judas, called Iscariot,
who was one of the twelve.
4 (Ac 4:1; 5:24) He went and discussed with the chief priests
and captains how he might betray Him to them.
5 They were glad and agreed to give him money.
6 He fully consented and searched for an opportunity to betray Him
to them apart from the crowds.
[3] Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of
the twelve.
[4] And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains,
how he might betray him unto them.
[5] And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
[6] And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
Mark 14:12-16
The Passover With the Disciples
Mt 26:17-28; Lk 22:7-14, 21-23; Jn 13:21-30
12 (Ex 12:6; 12:8) On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him,
"Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"
13 So He sent two of His disciples and said to them,
"Go into the city, and a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you there. Follow him.
14 (Jn 11:28) Wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house,
'The Teacher says, Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover
with My disciples?'
15 (Ac 1:13) He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready.
Make preparations for us there."
16 His disciples went out, and came into the city,
and found it as He had told them. And they prepared the Passover.
[12] And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover,
his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that
thou mayest eat the passover?
[13] And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye
into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
[14] And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with
my disciples?
[15] And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there
make ready for us.
[16] And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he
had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
Matthew 26:17-19
The Passover With the Disciples
Mk 14:12-21; Lk 22:7-14, 21-23; Jn 13:21-30
17 (Ex 12:18-20; 12:6) On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread
the disciples came to Jesus, saying,
"Where will You have us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"
18 (Jn 7:6; 7:30) He said, "Go into the city to a certain man,
and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand.
I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.' "
19 The disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared
the Passover.
[17] Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came
to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat
the passover?
[18] And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The
Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with
my disciples.
[19] And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready
the passover.
Luke 22:7-13
The Preparation of the Passover
Mt 26:17-25; Mk 14:12-21; Jn 13:21-30
7 (Ex 12:18) Then the Day of Unleavened Bread came,
when the Passover lamb must be killed.
8 He sent Peter and John, saying,
"Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat it."
9 They said to Him, "Where will You have us prepare it?"
10 He said to them, "Now, as you enter the city, a man carrying a pitcher
of water will meet you there. Follow him into the house which he enters,
11 (Jn 11:28) and say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?" '
12 (Ac 1:13) He will show you a large furnished upper room. Prepare there."
13 They went and found it as He had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
[7] Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. [8] And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that
we may eat.
[9] And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
[10] And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
[11] And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
[12] And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
[13] And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready
the passover.
John 13:1-20
Washing the Disciples' Feet
1 (Jn 12:23; 16:28) Now before the Passover Feast, - Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father.
Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
2 (Ac 5:3) Now supper being concluded, the devil had put into the heart
of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him.
3 (Jn 8:42; Mt 11:27) Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things
into His hands and that He came from God and was going to God,
4 (Lk 12:37; 22:27) rose from supper, laid aside His garments,
and took a towel and wrapped Himself.
5 (Lk 7:44; Ge 18:4) After that, He poured water into a basin
and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel
with which He was wrapped.
6 Then He came to Simon Peter, and Peter said to Him,
"Lord, are You washing my feet?"
7Jn 12:16Jesus answered him, "You do not understand what I am doing now.
But later you will understand."
8 (1Co 6:11; Heb 10:22) Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."
9 Simon Peter said to Him,
"Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"
10 (Jn 15:3) Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash
his feet, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you."
11 (Jn 2:25) For He knew who would betray Him. Therefore He said,
"Not all of you are clean."
12 (Jn 13:7) So when He had washed their feet, and put on His garments,
and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?
13 (1Co 12:3; Php 2:11) You call Me Teacher and Lord. You speak accurately,
for so I am.
14 (1Pe 5:5) If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 (Mt 11:29) For I have given you an example, that you should do
as I have done to you.
16 (Jn 15:20; Lk 6:40) Truly, truly I say to you, a servant is not greater
than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17 (Mt 7:24-25; Jas 1:25) If you know these things,
blessed are you if you do them.
18 (Ps 41:9; Mt 26:23) "I do not speak concerning all of you.
I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture may be fulfilled,
'He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.' (Ps 41:9.)
19 (Jn 14:29; 16:4) "Now I tell you before it happens,
that when it does happen, you may believe that I am He.
20 (Lk 10:16; Mk 9:37) Truly, truly I say to you, he who receives whomever
I send receives Me. And he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."
[1] Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved
his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
[2] And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
[3] Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and
that he was come from God, and went to God;
[4] He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel,
and girded himself.
[5] After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the
disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
[6] Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
[7] Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but
thou shalt know hereafter.
[8] Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him,
If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
[9] Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands
and my head.
[10] Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his
feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
[11] For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
[12] So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was
set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
[13] Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
[14] If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought
to wash one another's feet.
[15] For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to
you.
[16] Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his
lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
[17] If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
[18] I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the
scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
[19] Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
[20] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Mark 14:17-26
17 (Lk 22:14) In the evening He came with the twelve.
18 (Ps 41:9; Jn 6:70) As they sat and ate, Jesus said,
"Truly I say to you, one of you who is eating with Me will betray Me."
19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to Him one by one,
"Is it I?" and another, "Is it I?"
20 (Jn 13:26) He answered them, "It is one of the twelve,
one who is dipping bread in the dish with Me.
21 (Mk 14:49) The Son of Man indeed goes as it is written concerning Him,
but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed!
It would have been good for that man if he had never been born."
[17] And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
[18] And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of
you which eateth with me shall betray me.
[19] And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it
I? and another said, Is it I?
[20] And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that
dippeth with me in the dish.
[21] The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that
man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
The Lord's Supper
Mt 26:26-30; Lk 22:15-20; 1Co 11:23-25
22 (Mt 26:26-29; 14:19) As they were eating, Jesus took bread,
blessed and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,
"Take and eat it. This is My body."
23 (1Co 10:16) Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks,
He gave it to them. And they all drank from it.
24 (Ex 24:8; Zec 9:11) He said to them, "This is My blood of the new
covenant, which is shed for many.
25 (Mt 26:29) Truly I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit
of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
26 (Mt 26:30; 21:1) When they had sung a hymn, they went
out to the Mount of Olives.
[22] And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and
gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
[23] And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them:
and they all drank of it.
[24] And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
[25] Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
[26] And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Matthew 26:20-30
20 (Mk 14:17-21; Jn 13:21) When evening came, He sat down with the twelve.
21 (Jn 13:21; 6:70-71) And as they were eating, He said,
"Truly I say to you, one of you will betray Me."
22 They were very sorrowful, and each of them began saying to Him,
"Lord, is it I?"
23 (Jn 13:18; Ps 41:9) He answered and said, "He who has dipped his hand
with Me in the dish will betray Me.
24 (Mk 9:12; Lk 24:46) The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him,
but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed!
It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."
25 (Mt 26:64; 27:11) Then Judas, who betrayed Him, answered, "Master,
is it I?"
He said to him, "You have said it."
[20] Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
[21] And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you
shall betray me.
[22] And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say
unto him, Lord, is it I?
[23] And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
[24] The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
[25] Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
The Lord's Supper
Mk 14:22-26; Lk 22:15-20; 1Co 11:23-25
26 (Mt 14:19) As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it
and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said,
"Take and eat. This is My body."
27 Then He took the cup, and after He gave thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you.
28 (Mt 20:28; Ex 24:7-8) For this is My blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 (Mt 13:43; Mk 14:25) I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit
of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you
in My Father's kingdom."
30 (Mt 21:1; Lk 22:39) And when they had sung a hymn,
they went out to the Mount of Olives.
[26] And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake
it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
[27] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all of it;
[28] For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for
the remission of sins.
[29] But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the
vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
[30] And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Luke 22:14-30
The Lord's Supper
Mt 26:26-30; Mk 14:22-26; 1Co 11:23-25
14 (Mt 26:20; Mk 14:17) When the hour had come, He and the twelve apostles
with Him sat down.
15 And He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover
with you before I suffer.
16 (Lk 14:15; Rev 19:9) For I tell you, I will never eat it again
until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
17 And He took the cup and gave thanks and said,
"Take this and divide it among yourselves.
18 (Mt 26:29; Mk 14:25) For I tell you, I will not drink of the fruit
of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
19 (1Co 10:16; Mt 26:26-28) Then He took the bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying,
"This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me."
20 (Ex 24:8; Zec 9:11) In like manner, He took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood which is shed for you.
21 (Ps 41:9; Jn 13:26) But see the hand of him who betrays Me is with Me
at the table.
22 (Ac 2:23) Indeed, the Son of Man goes as it has been determined.
But woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!"
23 They began to inquire among themselves which of them it was who would
do this.
[14] And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with
him.
[15] And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
[16] For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
[17] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide
it among yourselves:
[18] For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until
the kingdom of God shall come.
[19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of
me.
[20] Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
[21] But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. [22] And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
[23] And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
The Dispute About Greatness
24 (Mk 9:34; Lk 9:46) There was also rivalry among them concerning which
of them was to be counted the greatest.
25 (Mt 20:25-28) He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise
lordship over them, and those who exercise authority
over them are called benefactors.
26 (Lk 9:48) But you are not so. Instead, let him who is greatest among
you be as the younger, and he who rules as he who serves.
27 (Mt 20:28; Lk 12:37) For who is greater: he who sits at the table,
or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table?
But I am among you as He who serves.
28 (Heb 2:18; 4:15) You are those who have continued with Me in My trials.
29 (2Ti 2:12; Mt 25:34) And I appoint to you a kingdom as My Father
has appointed one to Me,
30 (Mt 19:28; Lk 14:15) so that you may eat and drink at My table
in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
[24] And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be
accounted the greatest.
[25] And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
[26] But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be
as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
[27] For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
[28] Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
[29] And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; [30] That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
John 13:18-30
Jesus Foretells His Betrayal
Mt 26:20-25; Mk 14:17-21; Lk 22:21-23
21 (Mt 26:21; Mk 14:18) When Jesus had said this, He was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me."
22 (Lk 22:23; Mt 26:22) The disciples looked at one another,
uncertain of whom He spoke.
23 (Jn 19:26; 20:2; 21:7)Now there was leaning against Jesus' bosom
one of His disciples whom Jesus loved.
24 Therefore Simon Peter motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke.
25 (Jn 21:20) Leaning back against Jesus' bosom, he said to Him,
"Lord, who is it?"
26 (Mt 26:23) Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." When He had dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 (Lk 22:3; Jn 13:2) After receiving the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly."
28 But no one at the table knew why He said this to him.
29 (Jn 12:5-6) Since Judas had the moneybox, some thought that Jesus said
to him, "Buy what we need for the feast," or that he should give something
to the poor.
30 Having received the piece of bread, he then left immediately.
And it was night.
[21] When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
[22] Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
[23] Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
[24] Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should
be of whom he spake.
[25] He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
[26] Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have
dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
[27] And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him,
That thou doest, do quickly.
[28] Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
[29] For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had
said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
[30] He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
John 13:31-38
The New Commandment
31 (Jn 7:39; 14:13) When he had gone out, Jesus then said,
"Now is the Son of Man glorified, and in Him God is glorified.
32 (Jn 12:23; 17:1) If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him
in Himself and will immediately glorify Him.
33 (Jn 7:33-34; 1Jn 2:1) "Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek Me. And as I said to the Jews, so now I tell you,
'Where I am going, you cannot come.'
34 (Lev 19:18; Eph 5:2) "A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another, even as I have loved you,
that you also love one another.
35 (Jn 17:21) By this all men will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another."
Peter's Denial Foretold
Mt 26:31-35; Mk 14:27-31; Lk 22:31-34
36 (2Pe 1:14; Jn 13:33) Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered him, "Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now.
But you shall follow Me afterward."
37 Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You now?
I will lay down my life for Your sake."
38 (Mk 14:30) Jesus answered Him, "Will you lay down your life for My sake? Truly, truly I say to you, the rooster shall not crow until you have denied Me three times."
[31] Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world
be cast out.
[32] And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
[33] This he said, signifying what death he should die.
[34] The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ
abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who
is this Son of man?
[35] Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you.
Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that
walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
[36] While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children
of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
[37] But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed
not on him:
[38] That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he
spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the
Lord been revealed?
Mark 14:27-31
Peter's Denial Foretold
Mt 26:31-35; Lk 22:31-34; Jn 13:36-38
27 (Zec 13:7; Mt 26:31) Jesus said to them,
"All of you will fall away on account of Me this night, for it is written:
'I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.' (Zec 13:7).
28 (Mt 28:16; Mk 16:7) But after I have risen,
I will go before you to Galilee."
29 Peter said to Him, "Even if all fall away, I will not."
30 (Mk 14:66-72; Jn 13:38) Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you that
this day, during the night, before the rooster crows twice,
you will deny Me three times."
31 But he said more vehemently, "If I must die with You, I will not deny You." They all said the same thing.
[27] And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
[28] But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
[29] But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. [30] And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even
in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
[31] But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
Matthew 26:31-35
Peter's Denial Foretold
Mk 14:27-31; Lk 22:31-34; Jn 13:36-38
31 (Zec 13:7; Jn 16:32) Then Jesus said to them,
"All of you will fall away on account of Me this night,
for it is written:
'I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.' (Zec 13:7).
32 (Mt 28:10; 28:16) But after I have risen, I will go before you to Galilee." 33 (Lk 22:33) Peter answered, "Though all men will fall away on account
of You, yet I will never fall away."
34 (Jn 13:38; Mt 26:75) Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you, this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times."
35 (Jn 13:37) Peter said to Him, "Though I should die with You, yet I will
not deny You." And all the disciples spoke in this manner.
[31] Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the
flock shall be scattered abroad.
[32] But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
[33] Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended
because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
[34] Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before
the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
[35] Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Luke 22:31-38
Peter's Denial Foretold
31 (Am 9:9; Job 1:6-12) Then the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, listen!
Satan has demanded to have you to sift you as wheat.
32 (Jn 21:15-17; Ro 8:34) But I have prayed for you that your faith
may not fail. And when you have repented, strengthen your brothers."
33 (Mt 26:33-35; Mk 14:29) He said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go
with You to prison and to death."
34 (Mt 26:34; Mk 14:30) He said, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster
crows today, you will deny three times that you know Me."
[31] And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have
you, that he may sift you as wheat:
[32] But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
[33] And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into
prison, and to death.
[34] And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day,
before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
Purse, Bag, and Sword
35 (Lk 9:3; Mt 10:9-10) Then He said to them, "When I sent you without purse
or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?"
They said, "Nothing."
36 He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it and also a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his garment and buy one.
37 (Isa 53:12) For I tell you, what is written must yet be accomplished in Me, 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.'(Isa 53:12.)
Indeed, what is written concerning Me has a fulfillment."
38 They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords."
He said to them, "It is enough."
[35] And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
[36] Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
[37] For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished
in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things
concerning me have an end.
[38] And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto
them, It is enough.
John 14
John 14
Jesus the Way to the Father
1 (Jn 12:44; 16:22-23) "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me.
2 (Jn 13:33; 13:36) In My Father's house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.
3 (Jn 12:26; 14:28) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also.
4 You know where I am going, and you know the way."
5 (Jn 11:16) Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going.
How can we know the way?"
6 (Jn 10:9; 1:14; Ac 4:12) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth,
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7 (Jn 8:19) If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.
From now on you do know Him and have seen Him."
8 Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father,
and that is sufficient for us."
9 (Heb 1:3; Jn 12:45; Col 1:15) Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you
such a long time, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen
Me has seen the Father. So how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
10 (Jn 5:19; 10:38) Do you not believe that I am in the Father
and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak
on My own authority. But the Father who lives in Me does the works.
11 (Jn 5:36; 10:38) Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father
is in Me. Or else believe Me on account of the works themselves.
12 (Mt 21:21; Jn 14:28) Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me
will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father.
13 (Mt 7:7; Jn 13:31) I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
[1] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
[2] In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would
have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
[3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
[4] And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
[5] Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how
can we know the way?
[6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me.
[7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
[8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
[9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet
hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the
Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
[10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?
the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father
that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
[11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else
believe me for the very works' sake.
[12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works
that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;
because I
go unto my Father.
[13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
[14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
The Promise of the Spirit
15 (Eph 6:24) "If you love Me, keep My commandments.
16 (Jn 15:26; 14:26; 1Jn 2:1) I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever:
17 (Jn 15:26; 16:13; 1Co 2:14) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you.
18 (Jn 14:3) I will not leave you fatherless. I will come to you.
19 (Jn 7:33; 16:16) Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more.
But you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.
20 (Jn 10:38; 14:10) On that day you will know that I am in My Father,
and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 (Jn 14:15; 16:27) He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one
who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father. And I will love him and will reveal Myself to him."
22 (Lk 6:16; Ac 1:13) Then Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, how is it that You will reveal Yourself to us, but not to the world?"
23 (Jn 14:15; 14:21) Jesus answered him, "If a man loves Me, he will keep
My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our home with him.
24 (Jn 7:16; 14:10) He who does not love Me does not keep My words.
The word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.
25 "I have spoken these things to you while I am still with you.
26 (Jn 15:26; 16:7) But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father
will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that
I told you.
27 (Jn 16:33; Php 4:7; Col 3:15) Peace I leave with you.
My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 (Jn 14:12; 14:18) "You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away
and am returning to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice
because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.
29 (Jn 13:19) Now I have told you before it happens so that, when it happens, you may believe.
30 (Jn 12:31; 2Co 4:4; Heb 4:15) After this I will not speak much with you,
for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over Me.
31 (Jn 10:18; 12:49) But I do as the Father has commanded Me
so that the world may know that I love the Father.
"Rise, let us go from here.
[15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.
[16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you for ever;
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it
seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with
you, and shall be in you.
[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
[19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me:
because I live, ye shall live also.
[20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I
in you.
[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him,
and will manifest myself to him.
[22] Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my
words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
[24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye
hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
[25] These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
[26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send
in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
[27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
[28] Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you.
If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for
my Father is greater than I.
[29] And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come
to pass, ye might believe.
[30] Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
[31] But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father
gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
John 15:1-17
Jesus the True Vine
1 (Isa 5:1-7; 1Co 3:9) "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2 (Mt 3:10; 13:12) Every branch in Me that bears no fruit, He takes away.
And every branch that bears fruit, He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3 (Jn 13:10; 17:17) You are already clean through the word
which I have spoken to you.
4 (1Jn 2:6; Jn 6:56; Gal 2:20) Remain in Me, as I also remain in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, neither can you, unless you remain in Me.
5 (Php 4:13; Jn 15:16) "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains
in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing.
6 (Mt 13:41; Jn 15:2) If a man does not remain in Me, he is thrown out
as a branch and withers. And they gather them and throw them into the fire,
and they are burned.
7 (Jn 14:13; 15:16) If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you,
you will ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8 (Mt 5:16; Jn 8:31) My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
9 (Jn 17:26) "As the Father loved Me, I also loved you. Remain in My love.
10 (Jn 14:15; 8:29; 17:4) If you keep My commandments, you will remain
in My love, even as I have kept My Father's commandments
and remain in His love.
11 (Jn 17:13; 16:24) I have spoken these things to you, that My joy
may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
12 (Jn 13:34; 1Jn 3:23) This is My commandment: that you love one another,
as I have loved you.
13 (Jn 10:11; 10:15) Greater love has no man than this: that a man lay down
his life for his friends.
14 (Mt 12:50; Lk 12:4) You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
15 (Jn 8:26; 15:20) I no longer call you servants, for a servant does
not know what his master does. But I have called you friends,
for everything that I have heard from My Father have I made known to you.
16 (Jn 13:18; 6:70You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain,
that the Father may give you whatever you ask Him in My name.
17 (Jn 15:12) This I command you: that you love one another.
[1] I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
[2] Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every
branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. [3] Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
[4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
[5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
[6] If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
[7] If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
[8] Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be
my disciples.
[9] As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. [10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have
kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
[11] These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you,
and that your joy might be full.
[12] This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. [13] Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for
his friends.
[14] Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
[15] Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what
his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have
heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
[16] Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
[17] These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 15:18-27
The World's Hatred
18 (1Jn 3:13; Jn 7:7) "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me
before it hated you.
19 (Jn 15:16) If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world,
the world therefore hates you.
20 (Jn 13:16; Mt 10:24) Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant
is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My words, they will keep yours also.
21 (Mt 10:22; Jn 16:3) But all these things they will do to you for
My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
22 (Jn 9:41; Ro 1:20) If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not
have had sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 He who hates Me hates My Father also.
24 (Jn 5:36; 10:37) If I had not performed among them the works
which no one else did, they would have no sin.
But now have they seen and hated both My Father and Me.
25 (Ps 35:19; 69:4) But that the word which is written in their law might be fulfilled, 'They hated Me without a cause.' (Ps 35:19; 69:4.)
26 (Jn 14:16-17; 14:26; 16:7) "But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father,
He will bear witness of Me.
27 (Lk 24:48; Jn 21:24) And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
[18] If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
[19] If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye
are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
[20] Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
[21] But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
[22] If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now
they have no cloke for their sin.
[23] He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
[24] If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they
had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my
Father.
[25] But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is
written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
[26] But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the
Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
[27] And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
John 16
1 (Mt 11:6) "I have spoken these things to you so that you will not fall away. 2 (Jn 9:22; Ac 26:9-11) They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he is offering
a service to God.
3 (Jn 15:21; 17:25) They will do these things to you, because they have not known the Father nor Me.
4 (Jn 13:19; Mt 9:15) I have told you these things, so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them.
[1] These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
[2] They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
[3] And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
[4] But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at
the beginning, because I was with you.
The Work of the Spirit
"I did not tell you these things at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 (Jn 13:36; 7:33) But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you
asks Me, 'Where are You going?'
6 (Jn 14:1) Rather, sorrow has filled your heart because I have told you
these things.
7 (Jn 14:26; 15:26; 7:39) Nevertheless I tell you the truth:
It is expedient for you that I go away. For if I do not go away,
the Counselor will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.
8 (Jn 8:46) When He comes, He will convict the world of sin
and of righteousness and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 (Jer 23:5-6; Ac 3:14) of righteousness, because I am going to My Father,
and you will see Me no more;
11 (Jn 12:31; 14:30; 2Co 4:4) and of judgment, because the ruler of this
world stands condemned.
12 (Mk 4:33) "I have yet many things to tell you,
but you cannot bear them now.
13 (Jn 14:17; 14:26; 15:26) But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own authority. But He will speak whatever He hears, and He will tell you things that are to come.
14 (1Jn 4:13-14) He will glorify Me, for He will receive from Me
and will declare it to you.
15 (Jn 17:10) All that the Father has is Mine. Therefore I said that
He will take what is Mine and will declare it to you.
[5] But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me,
Whither goest thou?
[6] But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
[7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go
away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
[8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[9] Of sin, because they believe not on me;
[10] Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
[11] Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
[12] I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
[13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into
all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
[14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it
unto you.
[15] All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he
shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Sorrow Will Turn Into Joy
16 (Jn 7:33; 16:17-19) "In a little while you will not see Me. And then after
a little while you will see Me, because I am going to the Father."
17 (Jn 16:5; Mk 9:10) Then some of His disciples said among themselves,
"What is this He is telling us: 'In a little while you will not see Me;
and then after a little while you will see Me,' and, 'because I am going
to the Father'?"
18 Then they said, "What is this He is telling us: 'In a little while'?
We do not know what He is saying."
19 (Jn 2:24-25; 16:30) Then Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him.
So He said to them, "Do you inquire among yourselves concerning what I said: 'In a little while you will not see Me;
and then after a little while you will see Me'?
20 (Mk 16:10; Mt 5:4) Truly, truly I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will
be turned into joy.
21 (1Th 5:3) When a woman is giving birth, she has pain, because her hour
has come. But as soon as she delivers the child, she no longer remembers
the anguish for joy that a child is born into the world.
22 (Jn 16:6; 1Pe 1:8) Therefore you now have sorrow. But I will see you
again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
23 (Jn 16:19; Mt 7:7) On that day you will ask Me nothing. Truly, truly I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you.
24 (Jn 15:11) Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
[16] A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and
ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
[17] Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
[18] They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we
cannot tell what he saith.
[19] Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them,
Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall
not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
[20] Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be
turned into joy.
[21] A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come:
but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
[22] And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your
heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
[23] And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
[24] Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive,
that your joy may be full.
I Have Overcome the World
25 (Jn 16:2) "I have told you these things in proverbs. But the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, for I will speak to you
plainly about the Father.
26 On that day you will ask in My name. I am not saying to you that
I shall ask the Father on your behalf.
27 (Jn 14:21; 14:23) For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came from God.
28 (Jn 13:3; 8:14) I came from the Father and have come into the world.
As I said, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."
29 (Jn 16:25) His disciples said to Him, "Yes! Now You are speaking plainly
and with no figure of speech.
30 (Jn 21:17) Now we know that You know everything and do not need anyone
to question You. By this we believe that You came from God."
31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?
32 (Mt 26:31; Jn 8:29) Listen, the hour is coming. Yes, it has now come that you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave Me alone.
Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with Me.
33 (Jn 14:27; 1Jn 4:4; Jn 14:1) "I have told you these things so that in Me
you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world."
[25] These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh,
when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you
plainly of the Father.
[26] At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I
will pray the Father for you:
[27] For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
[28] I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I
leave the world, and go to the Father.
[29] His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and
speakest no proverb.
[30] Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any
man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
[31] Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
[32] Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone,
because the Father is with me.
[33] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome
the world.
John 17
The Prayer of Jesus
1 (Jn 11:41; 7:39) When Jesus spoke these words, He lifted His eyes toward heaven and said:
"Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son,
that Your Son may also glorify You.
2 (Jn 6:37; 6:39) As You have given Him authority over all flesh,
He will give eternal life to all whom You have given Him.
3 (1Jn 5:20; Jn 3:17; 17:25) This is eternal life: that they may know You,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.
4 (Jn 4:34; 19:30) I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work You have given Me to do.
5 (Jn 17:24; Php 2:6) And now, O Father, glorify Me in Your own presence
with the glory which I had with You before the world existed.
6 (Jn 17:2; 17:26) "I have revealed Your name to the men whom You have given
Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 Now they know that all things You have given Me are from You.
8 (Jn 16:27; 17:14) For I have given them the words which You gave Me.
They have received them and certainly know that I came from You,
and they have believed that You sent Me.
9 (Lk 22:32; Jn 14:16) I pray for them. I do not pray for the world,
but for those whom You have given Me. For they are Yours.
10 (2Th 1:10) All that are Mine are Yours, and all that are Yours are Mine.
And I am glorified in them.
11 (Jn 13:1; 17:21-22) I am to be no longer in the world, though these are
in the world, for I am coming to You. Holy Father, through Your name keep
those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are one.
12 (Jn 13:18; 18:9; 2Th 2:3) While I was with them in the world, I kept them
in Your name. I have kept those whom You have given Me. And none of them
is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
13 (Jn 3:29; 15:11) "But now I am coming to You, and I say these things
in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 (Jn 8:23; 17:16) I have given them Your word. And the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world,
but that You should keep them from the evil one.
16 (Jn 17:14) They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.
17 (Jn 15:3; 2Sa 7:28) Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
18 (Jn 20:21) As You sent Me into the world, so I sent them into the world.
19 (Jn 10:36; 1Co 1:2) For their sakes I sanctify Myself,
that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word,
21 (Jn 10:38; 17:8) that they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me,
and I in You. May they also be one in Us, that the world may believe that
You have sent Me.
22 (Jn 1:14; 14:20) I have given them the glory which You gave Me, that they may be one even as We are one:
23 (Jn 16:27; 17:21) I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfect in unity, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved
them as You have loved Me.
24 (Jn 12:26; 17:5) "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, that they may see My glory which You have given Me.
For You loved Me before the creation of the world.
25 (Jn 7:29; 15:21) "O righteous Father, the world has not known You,
but I have known You, and these have known that You sent Me.
26 (Jn 15:9; 17:6) I have declared Your name to them, and will declare it,
that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."
[1] These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify
thee:
[2] As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
[3] And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
[4] I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
[5] And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory
which I had with thee before the world was.
[6] I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy
word.
[7] Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
[8] For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they
have believed that thou didst send me.
[9] I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
[10] And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. [11] And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I
come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
[12] While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of
perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
[13] And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that
they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
[14] I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
[15] I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that
thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
[16] They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
[17] Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
[18] As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
[19] And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth.
[20] Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe
on me through their word;
[21] That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee,
that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast
sent me.
[22] And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
[23] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and
that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
[24] Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me
where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for
thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
[25] O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known
thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
[26] And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the
love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Psalm 55:1-5, 16-22
PSALMS 55
For the Music Director. With stringed instruments.
A Contemplative Maskil of David.
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God,
and do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) Attend to me, and answer me;
I am restless in my complaint, and I murmur,
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) because of the voice of the enemy,
because of the pressure of the wicked,
for they cause trouble to drop on me,
and in wrath they have animosity against me.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) My heart is in pain within me,
and the terrors of death have fallen on me.
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) Fear and trembling come into me,
and horror has overwhelmed me.
16 As for me, I will call on God,
and the Lord will save me.
17 Evening and morning and at noon,
I will make my complaint and murmur,
and He will hear my voice.
18 He has ransomed my life in peace
from the battle against me,
for there were many against me.
19 God will hear and afflict them,
even He who sits enthroned from of old. Selah
Because they do not change,
therefore they do not fear God.
20 My friend has set his hands against those at peace with him;
he has violated his covenant.
21 The words of his mouth were smoother than butter,
but battle was in his heart;
his words were softer than oil,
yet they were drawn swords.
22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
and He will sustain you;
He will never allow
the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55
[1] Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication. [2] Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;
[3] Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the
wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
[4] My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen
upon me.
[5] Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed
me.
[16] As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.
[17] Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
[18] He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
[19] God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
[20] He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he
hath broken his covenant.
[21] The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
[22] Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall
never suffer the righteous to be moved.
During a raging wildfire, a forest ranger saved a bear cub. At a recovery site safely away from those still fighting the inferno, he placed the rescued animal on the ground. Standing on its tiny back paws, the cub hugged the man's calf. The ranger gently pried himself away. Mouth wide as if crying out in desperation, the little bear clambered and clawed in an attempt to remain
in the refuge of his rescuer's embrace. As the cub clung to his arm,
the kind man relented and rubbed his furry friend's head.
What if we pursued our ultimate rescuer - Jesus - with the same fierce desperation and confidence as the bear cub who pursued and clung to the
one who saved him from death?
All people God made need saving. The psalmist David confessed
his need for a rescuer - for God to hear and answer
his prayers (Psalm 55:1-2). Admitting he faced troubles, threats, suffering, and fear (vv. 3-5), David pursued God with assurance. "As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me," he said (v. 16). "Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice" (v. 17). David prayed continually. He believed God listened and trusted that He would rescue him "unharmed" (v. 18).
When we face difficulties or suffering of any kind, like David, we can cry out to God. Our loving Rescuer, who pursues us, hears and saves us when we pursue Him too.
Reflect & Pray
How can you pursue God today?
When has God rescued you from trouble or suffering?
Dear God, thank You for rescuing me from
death through Christ and for being my refuge every day.

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 7 Support System
Deut 33:27
27 (Ge 49:24; Ps 90:1-2) The eternal God is your refuge,
and underneath you are the everlasting arms;
He will drive out the enemy before you,
and will say, "Destroy them."
27 The eternal God is thy refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms:
And he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee;
And shall say, Destroy them.
Misty was only 4 when her parents divorced. Her dad moved away,
and the following summer she went with her grandparents to visit him
in his new apartment. In the swimming pool one afternoon, Grandpa stood
Misty on the side of the pool, held out his arm, and called, "Jump!"
But Misty, normally a little fish, suddenly seemed afraid of the water,
and stood trembling on the sidewalk shaking her head.
"Jump, Misty - I'll catch you!"
"Are you sure, Grandpa?"
"Of course I'm sure! Jump!"
But Misty wouldn't jump. Finally Grandpa, a bit irritated, said, "Misty, do
you think I Won't catch you? Do you think I'll just walk away?"
The tears spilled over, and Misty sobbed. "Daddy did!"
Human support systems often fail us. We disappoint those we love, and
are disappointed by them. People simply aren't there for us
when we need them most.
But God promises that with him things are different. He's always there,
always listening, always caring, always ready to support us.
"Underneath his everlasting arms".
Sometimes those arms reach out clothed in flesh, in the warm embrace
of a loved one. Sometimes they support us through the Word, sometimes through the quiet peace that comes in prayer. Sometimes we are not aware of them
at all, but they still hold us up, supporting, surrounding, loving.
Underneath us are the everlasting arms.
Application
a) Have I ever felt abandoned by someone I loved and depended upon?
b) How have I experienced the faithfulness of God's "Everlasting arms"?
c) Now can this verse help me in times when I feel my supports have given way?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
Luke 16:10-12
10 (Mt 25:21; Lk 19:17) "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful
also in much. And he who is dishonest in the least is dishonest also
in much.
11 So if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth,
who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
who will give you that which is your own?"
10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much:
and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon,
who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
who shall give you that which is your own?
5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:
God's Reconciling Peace
Col 3:12-17
12 (Eph 4:2; Lk 1:78) So embrace, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,
a spirit of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and longsuffering. 13 (Eph 4:32; Mk 11:25; Eph 4:2) Bear with one another
and forgive one another. If anyone has a quarrel against anyone,
even as Christ forgave you, so you must do.
14 (Eph 4:3; 1Co 13:1-13) And above all these things, embrace love,
which is the bond of perfection.
15 (Jn 14:27; Eph 5:20) Let the peace of God,
to which also you are called in one body,
rule in your hearts. And be thankful.
16 (Eph 5:19; Col 1:28; Ro 10:17 ) Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing
one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 (1Co 10:31; Eph 5:20 ) And whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have
a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity,
which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye
are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Remember God's promises when You pray
The Lord's prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
9 After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and, of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other, "What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...)
