So what are you guys using? The real hardware or emulation?

I recently sold off my PI400 in favor of a GMKtech G3 nuc.

I plan to install linux and Amiberry. I have been building this setup under a imac 2013 and plan to image and bring over to the new computer once it arrives.

I currently use WinUAE for my BBS (C-Net Amiga), and have a PC with WinUAE with every AmigaOS emulated.. I don't use that all to often but it is good to see how something runs on other OS'.

I am working on putting together a pI4/Amiberry set up with AOS 4.1 instead of the 3.2 I run my BBS on, I own both softwares so I might as well use them! Would love to get another Amiga as I gave away my last one in 2015, but they are just too expensive.. So someone I know gave me the plans on building a full blown Amiga via a pI with CD, Floppy, HD etc once I have the software right and running smooth I will build the unit..

    ... I don't have the time for a hobby. I have a computer.

This will run under Amiberry? I didn't know that.. May be interesting to look up.

I've seen a couple builds on the Internet. Looks really neat. Wouldn't mind doing this for fun myself.

I would suggest the newest PI. I found the Pi/4/400 just to slow for my liking. Not the emulation but multi-tasking emulation and host applications at the the same time. This is why I sold my unit off.

Maybe consider using a mini-pc instead, so you have x86 support and much faster speeds for multi-tasking reasons?

My Amiga BBS is on WinUAE. WinUAE has run my BBS goin on 14 years now. I do have an A1200 that can now run C-Net, but if I move it over, I will lose my dial-up. Waiting until I get the right cable and external modem before I move it to real hardware. I also have an A500 that is having issues that I need to figure out.

Nice. I heard one take regarding running BBS on hardware. Why run the real hardware 24/7, degrading the life of the hardware?

Seems to make sense to keep something like your BBS under emulation and do other things under the physical hardware, such as gaming?

This isn't my perspective, but one I read.

Thinking more into regards to this. I stumbled across PI builds using Amiga cases from 1200net... This looks pretty interesting to me....

The issue appears to be finding a keyboard that fits the case outside of the original Amiga's... Any thoughts?

I am assuming it will since 4.1 will run under WinUAE with no issues..

I will be honest with you, my son will be gifting me a GMK NucBox g3 soon, he did a few YouTube videos on it so he has no use for 3 of them anymore. I am thinking maybe using that as the base instead of a pI. If I can yank it apart and put it in a different case which has a few bays in it, I think it will be better as I can put a Greaseweazel along with a floppy, and a CD Rom. It's all in my head right now, so until it is done it will be Vaporware for me.. LOL

So just received mine in the mail yesterday.

What a world of a difference compared to a PI. It's night and day different in terms of speed and reliability.

I would highly suggest this unit over a PI.

I am running The Rat's Den - Amiga in emulation.

I have an Amiga 2000 that is probbably dead from never removing the RTC battery in my parents garage, that at the very least I would like to pull the hard drive out of the next time I visit so I can see if I can image it and get some old PFILES that I have not been able to find again..

It would just be way to expensive to get the thing running again, everything that would need to be replaced costs a kidney by themselves.

    1) Keyboard
    2) Mouse
    3) PSU
    4) Floppy
    5) I think the CPU is dead..

I would not consider running a BBS in anything BUT emulation. Hardware is just too expensive to be sitting on all the time so other people can use it.

That being said, I am running it on an M1 MacMini using Amiberry. It runs pretty well, except for the occasional CTD.. One of my upcoming projects is to see if I can replace the PRAM battery on a 2016 spec bumped trashcan Mac Pro and install Windows 11 on it and move it back to WinUAE ( So I can use JIT). There is a CPU permissions limmitation on the Apple Silicone that does not allow for JIT to be used.
