I run my DOS inside 86box emulator. If you really want to turn your
modern PC into a legacy one, with exact setup (CPU,GPU, Motherboard,
you name it).. then I find no other way than 86box.net today.
Isn't 86box the one that is really great for just about everything except serial port emulation (i.e. for a modem)? Seems like I looked into that one once, a few years back, and the lead dev was a lot more interested in just about everything but modems.

They've added modem emulation in one of the previous versions. I think from 4.
onward. You can set it as another network card, just chose Hayes modem.
And then it will be translating IP numbers to numbers when you use Hayes commands.
I started using telix to connect to boards since this feature is enabled.
in parallel to MTCP's telnet app.
