From Patch #1@142.Wwivnet@11:1/101 to All on Sun Aug 18 19:48:56 2024

I didn't post this on the Door forum as it's technically not a WWIV door issue. However I am at a loss for why my TW EIS server isn't allowing public player to connect.

I have the server setup, I have a custom port. I can connect locally using 127.0.0.1, I can connect privately from a different computer on the LAN using either SyncTerm or Putty.

It's when I try to connect to the server using the public IP address and the custom port, despite that I have the custom port forwarded in the gateway to the correct private IP server.

Has anyone had this issue before, or has an idea what could cause it? I'm not new to the networking realms, but this particular situation is making me feel like a complete n00b again.

    Any help is appreciated.

I'd say check your router setup again. Maybe remove the port forward, save/reboot, then add it again, and save/reboot (the router, that is). This is assuming your system running the service has networking configured properly (like a gateway) and isn't blocking anything via software firewall.

I'll give that another shot and see what happens. I spent some time yesterday removing old entries just in case there was a limit to the number that you can have

It should also be noted that port forwarding for other services, including the BBS, works without issue.

I'll post what results I see.

Basically you would need the port forward on your router and also a permit rule to allow/open the internal IP/port. That should do it.
