So an interesting discussion came up with me and a fellow "old timer" BBS dude the other day. With what is going on in the USA, BBS systems could be "key" in the resistance and underground movement. The oligarch technobros are looking at social media, not these old methods of delivering communications. It's near impossible to scrape information from some BBS systems easily.
Started some interesting discussion, and I can't say I didn't disagree with his points. We talked about what if you could have forums where they were PGP encrypted. Only trusted, verified people would have the keys to decrypt.

Definitely got my mind going...

If social media was more restricted if Kamala Harris became president, or Biden with COVID issues. I would have operated a Winserver system on a hosted virtual server to have newsgroups and a ftp site.

I've already got a sneak peek at a system running for government employees in a certain department to be able to share data without the Oligarchs and orange felon watching. I must say, it was rather neat seeing what little I did. I'm excited to see where this goes.

employees in a certain department to be able to share data without the Oligarchs and orange felon watching. I must say, it was rather neat seeing what little I did. I'm excited to see where this goes.

I do wonder if we are talking about the same fellow behind this. I have

I know Marc Elias has migrated to Bluesky as well as a lot of folks who formerly were on Twitter / X. On igorantnation day I deleted my Twitter/X account (never used it anyway). I have always been politically active on the Left yet I have a family military history and I am ex navy. Basically you could say I am a libtard with classic Republican values. In other words... "I Like Ike!" Beware of the military industrial complex...

Technically, we could just require SSH, disable automatic access granting, and go back to doing new user verifications. Would definitely have to make sure none of those features to make messages and files web accessible are enabled. It would still be possible to infiltrate a system pretending to be a random user, no matter what you do I think, but at least there could be a whole bunch of them :).
