What's with the drones everywhere. I saw that the brits have set up a special drone unit outside of US military bases in the UK. They can detect a drone up to six miles away, determine who and where the operator is and hack into the controls to take over the drone. I am sure we can do this here.....

    Right?!

There is one drone, I think out of southern cali, that is a spitting image of the cyclon raider within MS Flight Simulator. That or Batman's in town.

    https://flightsim-squadron.com/2020/12/01/cylon-raider/

Another, out of New Jersey, was shooting lasers at an angle toward the ground while remaining stationary, however nothing o
n the ground was exploding, catching fire, etc.

As a GenXer I can officially say I think I've seen enough :)

The continuing "dumbing down" of people is what it is. They think they can "play games" and when caught will act like they are just so innocent.

One thing as I get older, I have far, far, far less tolerance for fools anymore.

I am at a point whereas when I see things such as "disease x" or "drones" or "ufo's" or whatever on everyones radar, my instinct is to wonder what they are trying to distract everyone from? I suppose I've grown skeptical with age but have tried not to grow intolerant.

Bingo! Part of growing older is the ability for all of us to grow wiser. Learn from past mistakes, learn how to verify information, learn how to know when things seem "too good to be true".

Yet, these skills seem to be quickly eroding away nowadays. I had a neighbor a few doors down the other day strike up a casual conversation. We talked about some holiday things, then I mentioned that in a few minutes I was going to have to run as I had an appointment for my pneumonia vaccine since I turned 50 this year.

OMG. You'd think that I had opened the doors of hell. He starts ranting about vaccines and some nonsense to do with Obama and Biden. I noped right out of that conversation and said "Gotta go!".

So we all grow older nowadays, but fewer and fewer of us are growing wiser.

I dunno, there are plenty of helicopters that are not military grade. However I would suspect DOD has something to do with it. I remember selling 386/486/Pentiums and manufacturer reps alluding to the years of tech ahead of what we were selling that the .gov had and assume still has ahead of us today.

That said I think dmxrob also makes a good point about smoking pot and making drones is the new muscle car for some today also being a
reasonable explanation. I would imagine after much speculation, arguments, and tin foil hat-ing, the illustrious "they" will tell or show us whats really going on.

I had a friend with a beat up Chevy but his father had a shop so... his engine was a 350 LT1 all alumninum which you could buy from the catalog. It was balanced and blueprinted. Heads and intake were ported and polished, flow tested on a bench. So yeah you can spend 10k easily even back in 1973.

It is all in how people interpret things from their own personal experiences. Two people could experience the same things, but have vastly different interpretations of what just happened. The same with how conversations can get skewed when re-told over and over by different people.

All I know is it is very important to maintain the freedom to make our own personal decisions. Just because one person thinks something is good doesn't mean someone else does. And I'm not saying one is right or one is wrong - just differences of perspective based on their own experiences.

I had an 80 Chevy Malibu and I also used to sometimes drive my brother's 69 Chevelle (which has a large hole in the floor). Doing burnouts in the Chevelle, you had to keep the windows open or you would get smoked out. I'm sure I could pull out some pictures of the old Malibu since I had that car even after my 1st daughter was born. I paid $300 for it but it needed a transmission (only reverse and 1st gear worked). Paid another $700 for a transmission and that car lasted me a long time. I love those old bench seats! Great in the old days with the girlfriends...

Though I didn't smoke pot, I was more into drinking (too much actually). That is why still to this day I only drink beer and no longer have any liquor. I also limit my beer intake to no more than 3 in any given day.

I miss the burnout days, but don't miss all the tickets I used to get.

Freedom is one of the most important things to me. The context of freedom however is provided the freedom doesn't negatively impact other people. For instance long ago when I used to smoke, I had the respect for other people and wouldn't smoke in my own car around non-smokers. I also never smoked in my own place for the same reason and would always go outside.

The issue today is so many have zero respect for others.

I try to walk around the neighborhood each day around lunchtime. Eating too much was never a thing for me, as I pretty much look at food as something needed for surving. Long ago I cut out all liquor (like age 21), and greatly limited my beer intake from the old days.

I never have more than (3) beers a day, but I do like my beer so I typically will have 3 beers a day. So when I go to the beer store and pick up (4) 30 packs at a time, it appears bad, but I never have more than 3 a day. Some light beer has such low alcohol content it is like having water, anyway. Good to prevent kidney stones.. :)

Forgot to mention, I like to buy multiple 30-packs at a time. So I typically have 1-2 30-packs of all (4) of the Anhauser-Busch beers I like. Bud, Bud Light, Busch, Busch Light, and Mich Ultra. The garage fridge is jammed packed with them and I even have some stacked on the floor of the garage in the overflow 30 packs. It saves me from having to run up to the store as often. I'll get like 2-4 30-packs at a time.

How can we do that when we spent 90% of our effort and time on culture war issues? As a former teacher who got the hell out, and still have friends
who teach, they all say the same thing -- they spend so much time on nonsense and culture war shit nowadays, they have little time to try and move the class as a whole forward.

Both my parents where education teachers many years ago now. It seems that most agree that the curriculum needs an overhaul and should be educating young people how on real world/everyday skills to get them ready for business and personal tasks.

Just one of many examples would be educating on the types of loans and all the associated loan packages and pros/cons of each. That is one example of something that most people need to understand and don't. The issue then is they get taken advantage of and make bad decisions based on not understanding life skills.

There also needs to be more guidance on career paths. Too many students go into stuff that has very little employment options and just isn't realistic. Not to mention the fact that college is still pushed when in many examples it isn't needed. Many can make a fantastic career without college. Need more people in trades that show the interest.

Instead we have a large pool of graduates that are not ready for society. I think the education system is fantastic, but the curriculum needs a major overhaul.

    Ding! Ding!

"I'm on a diet, so you can't have cake" is the mentality of many.

lol. If I want cake (and I love cake), I'm going to eat it. If someone else is on a diet and does't want the cake, that is fine. They need to have the self control to resist.

I think it is funny when I see someone that says they are on a diet and they either go out to eat or order food each day and eat a large amount, but will drink a diet soda. Like that makes a difference.

Self control - smaller portions are key - and then you can still have your cake. :)

I wished we had a career/life stuidies unit in English class where students have to do research and a budget.

I think history has shown us, and will show us again, that society will
not move backwards. We may take steps back, but those are often
    followed by huge steps forward.

And those that wish to turn back the hands of progress usually are dealt with by society eventually.
I saw a PBS documetary on the Gilded Age last week which seems to be the basis for the TV series of the same name. It's based on the rise of the capitalists in the industrial age and how the working class gets exploited. What blew me away was how this situation has never really changed. Big capital buys politicians and extorts the working class. I'm also amazed at how resilant the Constitution is and how forward thinking the "founding fathers" were. If anything, we can see flaws in the Constitution and perhaps remedy this to prevent any type of Authoritarianism in the future. The nobel experiment continues....
