Sorry for posting here, I don't think I've ever seen any traffic on the Ham radio subs.

I've had a Heathkit HW-101 in the garage for some time now that was given to me by a ham buddy. Yesterday, I didn't have any after work plans so, I hooked it up and slowly brought it up to temp and before I knew it, started to hear a distant station on 40M.

Spent some time re-learning how to tune the plate, load and finals before getting the nerve to attempt tuning it.

After a good 1/2 hour, I risked it.. Tuned the rig and a few minutes later was operating a Heathkit HW-101 again for the first time since 1989.

The amazing thing was how good it sounded! I also have a newer Kenwood TS-590s that I've been using for the last few years but the audio compared to the heathkit is pathetic!

Will try joining the Boat Anchor Net on 7.202 MHz this Thursday evening. Not sure about propogation since the solar storm, but it's worth a shot!
The random wire I use here on the condo isn't very efficient but I should be able to at the very least check-in.

    J..
