• Mailbox Full?

From Jimmy Mac #1@707.Wwivnet@11:1/101 to All on Sun Jan 5 12:43:01 2025

    Curious...

I tried to send a user email this morning (on my bbs) but their mailbox is full. I know the user frequents the BBS, just hasn't purged his old messages.

Since space isn't quite the premium it once was, is there an easy way to increase a users mailbox quota?

I think it's "Max Waiting" in wwivconfig on the first section (G) General system config.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I can look at the source to see where it's set. It's 50 by default.

I should check mine too :) I rarely delete things.

Same with me. I just checked my classic BBS in INIT and have mine set for what appears to be the max of 99. Still on the small side I guess for these days when storage isn't an issue.

We have come a long way from the days of running a BBS off (2) floppy 5 1/4 drives (which is where mine started). I think my max messages per area was only 20. The floppies would run out of space.. :)

Today I just added another (4) 14TB drives - another RAID 5 array. I now have (16) 14TB drives in my "Data Server". More than 200TB of storage!

It's actually more of the issue is that all the email's are in a single file email.dat, so if it gets corrupted, it toasts all the emails.

I really like backwards compatibility, so not inclined to change it now.

If 99 is the max can likely make it work for 255 if needed. Let me know
