The daily activity logs should be moved to a yearly folder like 2025 for 2025 in /wwiv/gfiles/2025

That is one of my suggestions.

That would be a nice thing for sure. Since you brought up logging, two questions for you Matthew or whomever may know ..

    1. How do I set more detailed logging levels if I need to trouble shoot connection issues with FTN's?
    2. Why are there logs in both /wwiv/logs and /wwiv/gfiles ? Seems like logs should all be under /wwiv/logs to add to the cleanliness.

In wwivconfig add a --v=1 or larger number to the networkb commandline, that'll then work for all netqork settings.

Legacy reasons, old wwiv logs are in gfiles, debug logs that we added are in logs.

I use logrotate to zip up and archive by date.

    Hey rushfan,

I think I have it narrowed down as to why I can't read messages (I think). I posted on github but basically I don't think WWIV can read the node list. Is there a specific way the FTN must list a node for WWIV to be able to see it? I am subscribed to ZeroNet, and when I try to read a message, it hangs up on me. They list in title scan just fine. All else works as expected. Here is what I found:

When reading FTN based Network Subs, the BBS hangs up on me via any type of connection. In local ./bbs mode (linux) I get the error:

    "Illegal instruction (core dumped)"
I'm using Linux Mint 22 "Wilma."

I think that maybe the problem might lay in the node list. Same error when I WWIVUTIL the fido nodelist

    ./wwivutil fido nodelist net/zeronet/ZERONET.024
    Illegal instruction (core dumped)

When attempting to add subs within the Fido Networks conference, the HOST shows up as "none" a) ZeroNet [-none-] 0N-BBS

In addition, the emails sent to me from a successful network connect via binkp shows the hubs address can not be found, again a nodelist issue.

EVERYTHING works as expected except for being able to read nodes. All things are pointing toward the nodelist not being able to be read. This is a valid nodelist, and works (tested) on Mystic, and is viewable in a text file/nano/listing via "cat," etc..

If you can get it to crash with wwivutil like this, then this is awesome. Attach the nodelist you are using to the bug report and let me know which number, I'll try to see if I can reproduce it.

If it's reproducable by me under a debugger it should be easy for me or someone else to fix! Awesome work sleuthing it out!

Will do! Thanks for the reply, I may email it to you just for the sake of not sharing the node info to the public.

Thanks, now I just wish I could figure out how to fix it. I did notice on a closed issue, there was a similar problem with e-mail from networks no longer on the BBS? Maybe there is a connection. As additional "info" this happens with newscan, or title scan and then hitting [enter] to read the message.

I also tested with FSED and basic line editor, and with another node, same issue.

    Thanks rushfan.

Maybe, xenos fixed that one, it's a crash, same as this one, likely some index is wrong or a buffer was overflowed.

Sure rushfan at wwivbbs dot org

I went ahead and just posted it (along with other requested files) to git. Thanks for looking into this.
