• GSM Desk phones, so cheap?

With the rollout of wholesome fibre, some folks are considering giving
up the landline - but have a problem reducing the bills add-on diet.

There will be one person in the house that does not get on at all with
mobile phones and is confused by red/green buttons, the lack of dial
tones, charging the thing and finding the speaker phone key.

So I've been overthinking some effort, involving a dongle to connect a
wired phone to either a mobile phone or VoIP, even coding/making one
and then landed on Alibaba with simple "GSM Deskphone" search.

There are scores of them available for a per unit landed price of just $15

    Hmmm.....

GSM only? Certainly no mention of 3G/4G/5G, 2G will be going away by
2033 at the latest, supposedly O2 starting to ditch it later this year?

Those are 2G only, which might cause troubles due to the turndown of 2G
signal. Similarly non-VoLTE '4G' phones may not work as they fallback to 2G
or 3G for voice calls, given the 3G signal is mostly turned off now.

There are others when searching for 'VoLTE desk phone' but unfortunately
VoLTE availability is based on the three way combination of carrier, plan
and handset, so it may or may not work on a given network or plan - the
    VoLTE mess:

Another option would be VOIP (SIP) service (A&A is -u1.44pm + calls), with either an ATA and an analogue phone, or a VOIP base which talks to DECT
phones (eg Gigaset N300 or Go-Box).
