Thousands of people in Orkney and Shetland have experienced disruption
to their internet and phone services because of damage to a subsea cable.

Shetland Telecom said the Shefa-2 cable between Orkney and Banff
sustained damage at about 03:00.

and to repair, the Shefa 2 subsea fibre-optic telecommunications cable
from Manse Bay in Orkney to Banff on the Scottish mainland.

Any Russian-connected ships in the vicinity at the time?

It could have been a trial run for wider operations against UK sea-bed
internet and power cables.

They know where they arerCathey just need to check out if there are any UK-specific conditions that might need to be taken into consideration.
