• Non-existent recording overlap

    From Jeff Layman@Jeff@invalid.invalid to uk.tech.digital-tv on Sat Aug 30 18:29:26 2025
    From Newsgroup: uk.tech.digital-tv

I just tried to set up a recording on my Panasonic PVR for "The Suicide
Squad" on ITV2 (Ch6) at 2100 - 2335 tonight. The PVR warned me that
there was an overlap with other programmes set to record, but I knew
there was nothing else I was due to record today.

When I asked it to show me the overlap in order for me to resolve the
issue, it showed me two programmes to be recorded next Tuesday at 2000 -
2100: "The Yorkshire Vet" on Ch5, and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" on
Sky Mix (Ch 11). These are series link programmes that I want to record
on Tuesday, but what does that have to do with a recording today?

I just set the recording timing manually rather than let it follow the
EPG timing, and it accepted that.

Any ideas why the PVR believes that there is an overlap next Tuesday?

It might be looking forward to next week.

Is it complaining about tonight's recording _OR_ that one of 3
recordings next Tuesday has a conflict. Next Tuesday have you already
set one program to record and then series linking has tried to set two
more but cannot because it has run out of tuners?

No. I wasn't offered a Series Record for tonight, I just got the overlap warning. I checked several online guides, and the only programme is on tonight.

It's tonight's programme it was complaining about overlapping with other programmes set to record, but there was no other programme I had set to
record tonight. The Tuesday Sky Mix programme had been set on series
link for a couple of months - every day at 2000 - 2100. The Ch5
programme is also on series link, set up on Tuesday last week as that
was the first of the series. The PVR can only record two programmes at
once. Unless ITV2 has messed up the instructions for tonight's film, I
can't see why the PVR is getting confused with Tuesday's set recordings.

I've just noticed that the film is split in the middle by a 5 minute
"FYI Daily" entertainment programme. However, in my experience these
film "halves" are automatically linked and not by what is usually
thought of as a series link.

I have sometimes found, in similar circumstances, that an earlier
recording set up, with Series Recording, is in the memory but does not
appear in the onscreen schedule. This is on a Humax Fox T2. It can be
very difficult to find and sort out.

I haven't seen this sort of a problem with the Panasonic as it seems to
always show series linked recordings in its EPG without problem. Anyway,
I just checked and the manually-set recording worked; it shows that
    programme was recorded last night.
